An intelligent post from a reader of Huffington Post

Speaking of President Obama's casting a wide net--even into the Republican Party--for his cabinet members, a Huffington Post reader made the following observant remark:

They drew a circle that shut me out
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But love and I had the wit to win.
I drew a circle that took them in.

If you surf the right wing blogs, you'll see the Republican Party fracturing into the Libertarians, the Religious Right, and the Moderates. Obama is reaching out to the Moderates, thus depriving the remainder of the Right of a major constituency. Look for the moderate, pragmatic wing to get down to work with the Dems while the Market Fundies and the Biblical Fundies duke themselves into irrelevance.

I have noticed for many months the parallels between Obama and Lincoln, even going so far as to suggest that Obama might be Lincoln reincarnated--who knows? We do know for sure that Obama is reading Lincoln--and no doubt Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals book about how Lincoln chose his cabinet. Our new president (hooray!) seems to be following Lincoln's wisdom of drawing your friends close, and your enemies even closer. It's a wonderful feeling to have a real president (elect for now but soon to be) once again after those eight years of hell, isn't it? The world pariah Bush can't leave the White House soon enough!
