A great song by George Harrison

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9b_0bMwZbY&feature=related   THAT WHICH I HAVE LOST

George was a genius -- and, wow, how that man could play the guitar!!!   I love this song.  The lyrics are printed at this site so you can follow along with the song as he sings it...
I watched PBS American Experience on War Letters tonight -- I had taped it a few weeks ago.  War letters from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WW I and II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, on and on ... poignant, brave, heart-touching letters written by soldiers to their loved ones. Many of these soldiers died in battle one or two days after writing their letters.  So many lives lost in all those wars...it's an insane world.   Then I came to my computer to listen to George Harrison.  This song, written from his heart, gives the directions to peace and our true home -- but how many are even asking for them?

If only a real Democrat would challenge Obama in the primaries!

I agree with Cenk Uygur about Obama. He has been a disaster for civil liberties, and is just another puppet for the masters who rule us with an iron fist. No matter which political party is in power, they get exactly what they want, using a pay-as-you-go system, buying up whatever votes they need with our money (anyone remember that we, the people were forced to bail out the big banks/corporations?). Although it's a losing game for all of us, we shouldn't go down without a fight.  Of course, we know that even if we could convince someone like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren to challenge Obama in the primaries, they wouldn't stand a chance against the cabal machine that always makes sure they get what they want. But at least we'd have a real progressive candidate to vote for and we'd go down shouting, "We're Mad as Hell, and we aren't going to take it anymore!"

IOWAN DEMOCRATS: PLEASE VOTE AGAINST OBAMA
By Cenk Uygur (from smirkingchimp.com)

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is a crime against our constitution. It allows for the indefinite detention of US citizens by the military inside the US -- without a trial. It's one of the worst laws ever passed in the US and it passed with nary a peep of opposition. I'm positive that a huge percentage of the population is not even aware of it, partly because the establishment media didn't even bother covering it.

But it appeared for a while that the one guy fighting against it was President Obama. I was incredibly encouraged by that. I shouldn't have been. It turned out at the end that he was threatening to veto the bill because he wanted it to have even more executive power, not less. This president has been a disaster for civil liberties. Every time I think about the fact that he used to be a constitutional law professor, I don't know whether to laugh or to cry. Indefinite detentions, summary executions of US citizens abroad without a trial, warrantless wiretapping and much, much more. All of the things we were outraged Bush did -- and then some. Honestly, it makes me feel a little sick that I voted for him. At least, I could say that I fought tooth and nail against Bush.

And civil liberties abuses are the tip of the iceberg in disappointment with this president. Then there is the comedy of financial reform which doesn't reform a damn thing. There are the zero prosecutions of the top bankers who destroyed our economy through their fraud, took our money and now spit in our face with it. There is the extension of the Bush tax cuts. There is the cave in on nearly every negotiation (the payroll tax cut being the exception that proves the rule (by the way, he "won" on more tax cuts, a profoundly Republican idea). His crowning achievement of healthcare reform was a proposal originally written by the Heritage Foundation. There isn't a Republican idea that President Obama didn't want to cuddle with and adopt as his own.

Now, the argument goes that he might be bad, but the Republicans are worse. Of course. Right now, Newt Gingrich is on the campaign trail arguing that Mitt Romney isn't kind enough to the rich. I'm not kidding. He is trying to make hay out of the fact that Romney takes capital taxes down to zero percent for only people making below $200,000. Newt thinks that's discrimination against the rich and he would take it down to zero for everybody. Then he would make your kids clean the rich kids' toilets in school.

I follow politics for a living; I'm not unaware of how hideous the Republican choices are. But that doesn't mean that we should pretend that President Obama has been brilliant because we're scared of the big, bad Republicans. That would be fundamentally dishonest.

And to be honest, I'm really disappointed that he does not have a primary opponent. This country is dying for someone who is going to take on the establishment. Who is that going to be on our side -- Barack Obama? On that, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Every time I think about the idea that President Obama might be against the establishment, I laugh and laugh and laugh. There has never been a guy who was this enamored with the establishment. If he had a wrestling nickname it would be The Establishment.

The guy who appointed Tim Geithner, Ben Bernanke, Larry Summers, Rahm Emanuel and Bill Daley (and a list of hundreds of others, including two new Fed appointments, one of which is a Republican who worked for the Carlyle Group) is not a guy who is interested in changing the system at all. Change was a cutesy slogan he used to trick us into thinking he was on our side.

I would have loved a progressive alternative, but apparently we are not going to get one (except for Rocky Anderson running on the Justice Party ticket). Primaries are the perfect place to send a message without taking away votes in the general election. But it didn't happen because the Democratic establishment says we must fall in line because we wouldn't want to hurt the agenda of the president. The agenda of the president sucks and is deeply Republican. I'd love to at least get him to reconsider that agenda for a second.

But there is one thing we can do right now that doesn't really hurt the chances of the president getting re-elected and doesn't help Republicans one bit. It is an idea that Occupy Iowa came up with. In the Iowa caucuses you can vote for "uncommitted." In fact, since the 1970's "uncommitted" has won twice on the Democratic side and it beat Bob Dole in 1980. Of course, the Republican Party has shut down this option on their side. They say you can vote that way in the GOP field but they will not register those votes or send those delegates. Of course, they're the GOP; they have no interest in your dissent.

But if all of those people were to go and participate on the Democratic side, they might have an effect. If "uncommitted" beat President Obama on the Democratic side in Iowa, that would make some news. That might even get the attention of The Establishment. So far, he has only responded to right-wing pressure. He is the consummate politician, so if there was actually a little bit of pressure on his left he might have to respond to it, especially during an election season. Wouldn't it be amazing if President Obama acted like a progressive on some issue because he was worried about the voters?

By the way, this strategy also has the benefit of being accurate. I am "uncommitted" toward Obama. I'm uncommitted from supporting a guy that has walked all over our civil liberties, that thinks tax cuts are the only answer, that gave all of the money to the bankers and asked for nothing in return, that thinks the right-wing establishment has all of the answers. Uncommitted is the kindest word I have.

If you live in Iowa, please send a message to the president for the rest of us. We voted for change last time, apparently you didn't hear us. If you don't hear us soon, you might be the one that gets changed.

Back in 1932, Groucho Marx sang the perfect GOP theme song for today

Republican Party Theme Song: (as performed by Groucho in the Marx Brothers movie, Horsefeathers--and now being performed by John Boehner and Company)

I don't know what they have to say, It makes no difference anyway,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
No matter what it is or who commenced it, I'm against it.
Your proposition may be good, But let's have one thing understood,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
And even when you've changed it or condensed it, I'm against it.
I'm opposed to it!
On general principle, I'm opposed to it!
[Tea Party chorus] He's opposed to it! It's fact, indeed, that he's opposed to it!

Timeline info on Gingrich's lies/affairs/divorces

Court documents have revealed his lies -- here is more information showing his hypocrisy, sociopathic behavior and low moral values.  Gingrich, a narcissist with a hardened heart, left both wives during their major health crises.  One had just had her 3rd ovarian cancer surgery and was still in the hospital, the other had just been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  It wasn't enough that he left his first wife and their 2 daughters in her dire circumstances. He then refused to pay support for them. Oh yes, Gingrich is a true GOP gem.  But there is no end to his scheming -- read on about how and why he turned Catholic.   http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/12/26/the-complete-timeline-of-the-gingrich-divorces-shows-hes-not-been-honest-with-voters/

Court files show Gingrich as selfish, cruel

The real Newt shows up clearly in court files of his first divorce.  http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/26/politics/gingrich-divorce-file/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
The files tell a lot about his "family values." The man apparently has none of the moral values Republicans claim to cherish. It's hard to imagine that ANYone would want to vote for this self-obsessed, conscienceless egomaniac.  Especially people who honor morality and family values.

EXCERPT:
Leonard H. "Kip" Carter, a former close Gingrich friend, backed the contention that it was Newt Gingrich who wanted the divorce. "He (Gingrich) said, 'You know and I know that she's not young enough or pretty enough to be the wife of a president,' " Carter, who now lives in South Carolina, told CNN recently, relating the conversation he had with Gingrich the day Gingrich revealed he was filing for divorce. Carter served as treasurer of Gingrich's first congressional campaigns.  Carter, who was a fellow history professor when Gingrich taught at West Georgia College in Carrollton, said he broke off his friendship with Newt Gingrich because of the congressman's treatment of his wife during the divorce.

When Gingrich filed for divorce, he was already seeing a 28-year-old congressional aide, whom he married six months after his divorce was final in 1981. (He later divorced wife #2 to marry a younger woman who now stands by his side -- presumably until someone younger and prettier catches ol' Newt's eye).

The same court filing in which Jackie Gingrich told the judge she did not want the divorce also accused Gingrich of failing to provide enough money for her and her two then-teenaged daughters to live on during their separation. Kathy was 17 at the time.  "Despite repeated notice to plaintiff and requests by defendant, plaintiff has failed and refused to voluntarily provide reasonable support sufficient to include payment of usual and normal living expenses, including drugs, water, sewage, garbage, gas, electric and telephone service for defendant and the minor children," she said in court documents. "As a result, many of such accounts are two or three months past due with notices of intent to cut off service and gas and electricity."

When Jackie Gingrich and her daughters moved from their other home in Fairfax, Virginia, back to their house in Carrollton, Georgia, there were "no lights, no heat, no water, no food in the home," former Gingrich friend and academic colleague Carter said.  Carter, who helped collect donations for the family, said Gingrich "wouldn't give them a dime" in the first months of the separation. "We had a food drive at First Baptist Church," Carter said. "The deacons went down and stocked her pantry."

Stupid Republican Morons!

Jim Sensenbrenner Slurs First Lady Instead of Addressing Her Issues

By Akiba Solomon, Daily Beast

Dec 23, 2011 11:00 PM EST

Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner and Rush Limbaugh make asses of themselves when they trash talk about Michelle Obama’s appearance instead of frankly addressing the issues she raises about nutrition and health care.

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about how Jim Sensenbrenner, the quadruple-chinned Republican congressman from Wisconsin’s 5th District, called First Lady Michelle Obama unfit to “lecture us about eating right” because “she has a large posterior herself.

According to Fishbowl DC, Sensenbrenner made the comment during what he thought was a private cell phone conversation at a Washington, D.C., airport lounge. Sadly, an unnamed Democratic operative overheard him raging against Mrs. O’s “Let’s Move” machine and tipped off Fishbowl DC.

In response to the media firestorm, the press-averse congressman made this brief statement: “I regret my inappropriate comment and I have sent a personal note to the First Lady apologizing.”

Today, his D.C.-based press secretary confirmed that Rep. Sensenbrenner sent the apology. However, citing “short notice,” she declined to answer my policy questions:

Can you elaborate on Rep. Sensenbrenner’s disagreement with the Let’s Move Campaign? Are there specific provisions that he takes issue with?

Can you point me to any legislative activity Rep. Sensenbrenner has sponsored or supported that addresses childhood obesity in the United States?

Without even a basic idea of what Sensenbrenner specifically dislikes about a multi-pronged campaign to reduce childhood obesity and chronic illnesses like diabetes and high blood pressure, I—an African American woman sitting on my own rather large posterior—am forced to theorize.

Michelle Obama

My big theory: What the Wisconsin Republican and his ilk are really expressing when they take cheap shots at Mrs. Obama’s famously fit body is fear.

For instance, back in February, when Rush Limbaugh accused Mrs. Obama of being a hypocrite because she ate ribs during her Vail ski vacation with her daughters, he added, “I’m trying to say that our First Lady does not project the image of women that you might see on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit Issue or of a woman Alex Rodriguez might date every six months or what have you.”

Unless Limbaugh has some secret files stashed in his lair, I’m unclear how a rational person could have made that leap. Michelle Obama is an accomplished attorney, former hospital executive, international fashion icon, mother of two girls, and the wife of the president of the United States. Like most grown women I know of, her ultimate goal is not to land on the cover of a swimsuit issue or date a baseball player.

Clearly, these petty, dirty old men have been gawking at the First Lady’s behind when they could have been studying and debating Let’s Move policies.

And that’s what’s scary to a paunchy, sexist trash-talker like Limbaugh. He simply can’t bear to see a woman be proud of what her body actually looks like when she’s eating nutritious foods, splurging occasionally without apology, exercising regularly, and sporting biceps that make his look like mammoth knees.

I also think Sensenbrenner, Limbaugh, and their folk are afraid of how this country’s first black First Lady is changing the centuries-old, dehumanizing scripts about women of color in media and beyond.

Every time Michelle Obama from Chi-Town jumps Double-Dutch with schoolkids, hits the hula hoop, teaches us how to dougie, shows Desmond Tutu how to do a proper pushup or does a record number of jumping jacks, she chips away at Ronald Reagan’s fake welfare queen, Hollywood’s jolly mammies, and Jackie magazine’s “niggabitch” with a “ghetto ass.”

Most important, I suspect they’re afraid of their own Venus Hottentot fantasies. Clearly, these petty, dirty old men have been gawking at the First Lady’s behind when they could have been studying and debating Let’s Move policies.

But it’s a lot easier to call someone a bubble butt than it is to explain what’s wrong with, say, eliminating food desserts in low-income and rural neighborhoods, equipping more women of color and poor women with breast pumps, reducing infant mortality, and fighting childhood obesity that too often leads to chronic diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure. Just like it’s a lot easier for a potbellied stove to call the svelte, savvy kettle black.

Huntsman should be GOP choice

Jon Huntsman is intelligent, relatively honest (no politician is really honest) and has common sense proposals re. taxes.  Therefore, he will not be the Republican nominee.  Republicans are not smart enough to put him at the top of their ticket.  If they were, he would have a good chance of winning against Obama.

Obama and Geithner government: ENRON style

http://www.readersupportednews.org/opinion2/277-75/9029-obama-and-geithner-government-enron-style

EXCERPT:
What makes Obama's statements so dangerous is that they suggest an ongoing strategy of covering up the Wall Street crimewave. There is ample evidence out there that the Obama administration has eased up on prosecutions of Wall Street as part of a conscious strategy to prevent a collapse of confidence in our financial system, with the expected 50-state foreclosure settlement being the landmark effort in the cover-up, intended mainly to bury a generation of fraud.

Interesting: Scientists say Shroud of Turin is "supernatural"

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/scientists-say-turin-shroud-is-supernatural-6279512.html

Italian government scientists have claimed to have discovered evidence that a supernatural event formed the image on the Turin Shroud, believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ.

After years of work trying to replicate the coloring on the shroud, a similar image has been created by the scientists.

However, they only managed the effect by scorching equivalent linen material with high-intensity ultra violet lasers, undermining the arguments of other research, they say, which claims the Turin Shroud is a medieval hoax.

Such technology, say researchers from the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (Enea), was far beyond the capability of medieval forgers, whom most experts have credited with making the famous relic.

"The results show that a short and intense burst of UV directional radiation can colour a linen cloth so as to reproduce many of the peculiar characteristics of the body image on the Shroud of Turin," they said.

And in case there was any doubt about the preternatural degree of energy needed to make such distinct marks, the Enea report spells it out: "This degree of power cannot be reproduced by any normal UV source built to date."

A statement by lead researcher, Dr Paolo Di Lazzaro, said: "If our results prompt a philosophical or theological debate, these conclusions we'll leave to the experts; to each person's own conscience," he said.

Luigi Garlaschelli, a professor of chemistry at Pavia University, told The Independent: "The implications are... that the image was formed by a burst of UV energy so intense it could only have been supernatural."

American justice? Please read L.A.P.D another story re Occupy LA

We do not live in the country that has been advertised to us as the Land of the Free.  Freedoms are being taken from us while our attention is diverted by football games and reality shows.  Did you ever think this is where we would come to in the 21st century?  A new world order is being put into place by the 1% and, for the most part, we are not paying attention!  As the writer below asks, What does it say about our country that nonviolent protesters are given the bottom of a police boot while those who steal hundreds of billions, do trillions worth of damage to our economy and shatter our social fabric for a generation are not only spared the zipcuffs but showered with rewards?

My Occupy LA Arrest, by Patrick Meighan

My Occupy LA Arrest, by Patrick Meighan

My name is Patrick Meighan, and I'm a husband, a father, a writer on the Fox animated sitcom "Family Guy", and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Santa Monica.
I was arrested at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning with 291 other people at Occupy LA. I was sitting in City Hall Park with a pillow, a blanket, and a copy of Thich Nhat Hanh's "Being Peace" when 1,400 heavily-armed LAPD officers in paramilitary SWAT gear streamed in. I was in a group of about 50 peaceful protestors who sat Indian-style, arms interlocked, around a tent (the symbolic image of the Occupy movement). The LAPD officers encircled us, weapons drawn, while we chanted "We Are Peaceful" and "We Are Nonviolent" and "Join Us."
As we sat there, encircled, a separate team of LAPD officers used knives to slice open every personal tent in the park. They forcibly removed anyone sleeping inside, and then yanked out and destroyed any personal property inside those tents, scattering the contents across the park. They then did the same with the communal property of the Occupy LA movement. For example, I watched as the LAPD destroyed a pop-up canopy tent that, until that moment, had been serving as Occupy LA's First Aid and Wellness tent, in which volunteer health professionals gave free medical care to absolutely anyone who requested it. As it happens, my family had personally contributed that exact canopy tent to Occupy LA, at a cost of several hundred of my family's dollars. As I watched, the LAPD sliced that canopy tent to shreds, broke the telescoping poles into pieces and scattered the detritus across the park. Note that these were the objects described in subsequent mainstream press reports as "30 tons of garbage" that was "abandoned" by Occupy LA: personal property forcibly stolen from us, destroyed in front of our eyes and then left for maintenance workers to dispose of while we were sent to prison.
When the LAPD finally began arresting those of us interlocked around the symbolic tent, we were all ordered by the LAPD to unlink from each other (in order to facilitate the arrests). Each seated, nonviolent protester beside me who refused to cooperate by unlinking his arms had the following done to him: an LAPD officer would forcibly extend the protestor's legs, grab his left foot, twist it all the way around and then stomp his boot on the insole, pinning the protestor's left foot to the pavement, twisted backwards. Then the LAPD officer would grab the protestor's right foot and twist it all the way the other direction until the non-violent protestor, in incredible agony, would shriek in pain and unlink from his neighbor.
It was horrible to watch, and apparently designed to terrorize the rest of us. At least I was sufficiently terrorized. I unlinked my arms voluntarily and informed the LAPD officers that I would go peacefully and cooperatively. I stood as instructed, and then I had my arms wrenched behind my back, and an officer hyperextended my wrists into my inner arms. It was super violent, it hurt really really bad, and he was doing it on purpose. When I involuntarily recoiled from the pain, the LAPD officer threw me face-first to the pavement. He had my hands behind my back, so I landed right on my face. The officer dropped with his knee on my back and ground my face into the pavement. It really, really hurt and my face started bleeding and I was very scared. I begged for mercy and I promised that I was honestly not resisting and would not resist.
My hands were then zipcuffed very tightly behind my back, where they turned blue. I am now suffering nerve damage in my right thumb and palm.
I was put on a paddywagon with other nonviolent protestors and taken to a parking garage in Parker Center. They forced us to kneel on the hard pavement of that parking garage for seven straight hours with our hands still tightly zipcuffed behind our backs. Some began to pass out. One man rolled to the ground and vomited for a long, long time before falling unconscious. The LAPD officers watched and did nothing.
At 9 a.m. we were finally taken from the pavement into the station to be processed. The charge was sitting in the park after the police said not to. It's a misdemeanor. Almost always, for a misdemeanor, the police just give you a ticket and let you go. It costs you a couple hundred dollars. Apparently, that's what happened with most every other misdemeanor arrest in LA that day.
With us Occupy LA protestors, however, they set bail at $5,000 and booked us into jail. Almost none of the protesters could afford to bail themselves out. I'm lucky and I could afford it, except the LAPD spent all day refusing to actually *accept* the bail they set. If you were an accused murderer or a rapist in LAPD custody that day, you could bail yourself right out and be back on the street, no problem. But if you were a nonviolent Occupy LA protestor with bail money in hand, you were held long into the following morning, with absolutely no access to a lawyer.
I spent most of my day and night crammed into an eight-man jail cell, along with sixteen other Occupy LA protesters. My sleeping spot was on the floor next to the toilet.
Finally, at 2:30 the next morning, after twenty-five hours in custody, I was released on bail. But there were at least 200 Occupy LA protestors who couldn't afford the bail. The LAPD chose to keep those peaceful, non-violent protesters in prison for two full days… the absolute legal maximum that the LAPD is allowed to detain someone on misdemeanor charges.
As a reminder, Antonio Villaraigosa has referred to all of this as "the LAPD's finest hour."
So that's what happened to the 292 women and men were arrested last Wednesday. Now let's talk about a man who was not arrested last Wednesday. He is former Citigroup CEO Charles Prince. Under Charles Prince, Citigroup was guilty of massive, coordinated securities fraud.
Citigroup spent years intentionally buying up every bad mortgage loan it could find, creating bad securities out of those bad loans and then selling shares in those bad securities to duped investors. And then they sometimes secretly bet *against* their *own* bad securities to make even more money. For one such bad Citigroup security, Citigroup executives were internally calling it, quote, "a collection of dogshit". To investors, however, they called it, quote, "an attractive investment rigorously selected by an independent investment adviser".
This is fraud, and it's a felony, and the Charles Princes of the world spent several years doing it again and again: knowingly writing bad mortgages, and then packaging them into fraudulent securities which they then sold to suckers and then repeating the process. This is a big part of why your property values went up so fast. But then the bubble burst, and that's why our economy is now shattered for a generation, and it's also why your home is now underwater. Or at least mine is.
Anyway, if your retirement fund lost a decade's-worth of gains overnight, this is why.
If your son's middle school has added furlough days because the school district can't afford to keep its doors open for a full school year, this is why.
This is happening in every major city in the USA.  I'm angry, too! Barb
If your daughter has come out of college with a degree only to discover that there are no jobs for her, this is why.
But back to Charles Prince. For his four years of in charge of massive, repeated fraud at Citigroup, he received fifty-three million dollars in salary and also received another ninety-four million dollars in stock holdings. What Charles Prince has *not* received is a pair of zipcuffs. The nerves in his thumb are fine. No cop has thrown Charles Prince into the pavement, face-first. Each and every peaceful, nonviolent Occupy LA protester arrested last week has has spent more time sleeping on a jail floor than every single Charles Prince on Wall Street, combined.
The more I think about that, the madder I get. What does it say about our country that nonviolent protesters are given the bottom of a police boot while those who steal hundreds of billions, do trillions worth of damage to our economy and shatter our social fabric for a generation are not only spared the zipcuffs but showered with rewards?
In any event, believe it or not, I'm really not angry that I got arrested. I chose to get arrested. And I'm not even angry that the mayor and the LAPD decided to give non-violent protestors like me a little extra shiv in jail (although I'm not especially grateful for it either).
I'm just really angry that every single Charles Prince wasn't in jail with me.
Thank you for letting me share that anger with you today.
Patrick Meighan

Rewriting history by Mitt Romney

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/12/21/romney-bush-wouldnt-have-invaded-iraq-if-he-knew-there-were-no-wmd/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheRawStory+%28The+Raw+Story%29

Romney says Bush (Cheney) wouldn't have invaded Iraq if he had known there were no WMDs.  You don't know whether to laugh or cry at this blatant rewrite of history.  The worst of it is, there are actually people in our country who will believe this and anything else they are told by the GOP hierarchy.  No wonder we are in such deep trouble.  Just one look at the GOP candidates tells you all you need to know about the intelligence of the average Republican voter.  These are the people pulled from their ranks whom they consider to be the "best of the best."  Sigh.

Borowitz: Why Gingrich is plummeting in polls

Gingrich Plummets in Polls as Voters Start Remembering Who He Is

Dawning Awareness Threatens Campaign

DES MOINES (The Borowitz Report) – In a development that has imperiled his front-runner status in the Republican presidential race, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has plunged in the polls as voters have begun to remember who he is.

Mr. Gingrich had been surging in recent weeks, but according to pollster Davis Logsdon of the University of Minnesota’s Opinion Research institute, “That was before people's memories of who New Gingrich is started gradually kicking in.”

According to a new poll released today, Mr. Gingrich fared especially poorly among voters who agreed with the statement, “Wait a minute, that guy?  He was an enormous dick.”

“Newt Gingrich has got to do something fast to keep people from remembering who he is,” pollster Logsdon said.  “He might try growing a moustache or wearing an eye patch, but that might be too little, too late.”

On the ground in Iowa, Gingrich campaign strategists are working overtime to confront the challenge posed by voters remembering who he is, aides to the former House Speaker said today.

According to one campaign source, the Gingrich campaign has begun seeking the support of people with mental disorders and other memory issues that make it hard for them to retain basic information.

“The problem is, most of those people are currently running for President,” the source said.
