Demanding Accountability from Supreme Court Justices Thomas and Scalia

Please write or call your representatives in Congress and let them know you want accountability on these issues from both Thomas and Scalia! The right wing thinks it can get away with anything -- and it does, time and time again. We, the people must raise our voices and demand integrity from--of ALL PEOPLE--our Supreme Court Justices!!!! These two conservative Republican justices cannot be trusted, even in matters of personal integrity, let alone making court decisions that impact us all. Unless we make ourselves heard by our representatives, offenses against liberty and justice will continue from the right wing.

from Common Cause: Holding Power Accountable
The integrity of Supreme Court justices ought to be beyond reproach.

Last week we told you that Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, because of their involvement with secret political meetings hosted by Koch Industries, may have had a conflict of interest when they issued their ruling in Citizens United -- the case that opened the floodgates of corporate and special interest spending on elections. And we challenged the Justice Department to investigate. (1)

Now, Common Cause has discovered that Justice Thomas failed to disclose any of his wife's income between 2003 and 2009, though public documents show that she earned $686,589 from the Heritage Foundation, a think tank that works on issues that regularly come before the Supreme Court, and an unknown salary from Liberty Central, a political action group. We have brought the matter to the Judicial Conference of the United States. (2)

We have a right to open, honest and accountable government -- and that includes the justices who serve on the Supreme Court.

We need a full accounting of Scalia and Thomas' involvement with Koch Industries, the second largest privately held company in the U.S., and a major player in political campaigns and in the Tea Party. Reports indicate that the Koch brothers have spent millions to influence elections, and regularly host secret strategy sessions with corporate leaders and political activists. (Truth and Wisdom comment: The billionaire Koch brothers have made big donations to Clarence Thomas's wife's political organizations. They also funded the "Swiftboaters" in the 2004 election, with false accusations against Kerry. They are now funding denials that climate change is harming the planet. See below in blue print for more info. on this.)

The public also deserves accurate answers on justices' disclosure forms, so that potential conflicts of interest are revealed before they can do harm.

Climate Change Denials Funded by Koch Brothers
The Kochs are longtime libertarians who believe in drastically lower personal and corporate taxes, minimal social services for the needy, and much less oversight of industry—especially environmental regulation. These views dovetail with the brothers’ corporate interests. In a study released this spring, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst’s Political Economy Research Institute named Koch Industries one of the top ten air polluters in the United States. And Greenpeace issued a report identifying the company as a “kingpin of climate science denial.” The report showed that, from 2005 to 2008, the Kochs vastly outdid ExxonMobil in giving money to organizations fighting legislation related to climate change, underwriting a huge network of foundations, think tanks, and political front groups. Indeed, the brothers have funded opposition campaigns against so many Obama Administration policies—from health-care reform to the economic-stimulus program—that, in political circles, their ideological network is known as the Kochtopus.

Clarence Thomas Failed to Report Wife's Income!

Not a small "oversight" -- we're talking about Thomas's hiding of almost $700,000 income over a 5-year period!  Typical behavior of a "conservative" Republican "justice" -- this man has been a skunk from day one, when he denied Anita Hill's true claim of his sexual harassment of her. He should be thrown off of the Supreme Court (should never have been allowed on it in the first place!), but that will never happen.  He probably won't even get a slap on the wrist for this "omission" on his income tax.  Imagine what would happen to us little folk if we omitted income on OUR tax forms -- let alone that HIS omission was HUGE!  The rats are in power all over the place, and there seems to be nothing we, the people can do to rid our nation's capital of them.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-thomas-disclosure-20110122,0,2413407.story

Virginia Thomas earned over $680,000 from conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation over five years, a group says. But Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas did not include it on financial disclosure forms.

Medical Research: Placebos often more effective than drugs?

By Lynne McTaggert   http://www.theintentionexperiment.com/healing-thoughts.htm

The biggest headache for any drug-company executive is the placebo. A placebo, or sugar pill, is used in controlled drug trials precisely to show that the drug in question works.

One of two groups of patients is given the active drug, while the other group is given the placebo, but neither knows who got what.  The assumption is that far more patients will show improvements on the drug than on the placebo.  Upon this assumption is built the entire edifice of modern medicine.

Nevertheless, in practice, so many patients receive the same relief and even the same side effects with a placebo as with the drug itself that a placebo often is not a true control.

Placebo power
The power of the placebo was best illustrated by a group of patients treated for Parkinson’s disease, a motor system disorder in which the body’s system for releasing the brain chemical dopamine is faulty. The standard treatment for Parkinson’s is a synthetic form of dopamine.

In a study at the University of British Columbia, a team of doctors demonstrated with PET scanning that, when patients given placebos were told they had received dopamine, their brains substantially increased the release of their own stores of the chemical.

In another dramatic instance, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Dr Bruce Moseley, a specialist in orthopaedics, recruited 150 patients with severe osteoarthritis of the knee and divided them into three groups.

Two-thirds were either given arthroscopic lavage (which washes out degenerative tissue and debris with the aid of a little viewing tube) or another form of debridement (which sucks it out with a tiny vacuum cleaner).

The third group were given a sham operation: The patients were surgically prepared, placed under anaesthesia and wheeled into the operating room. Incisions were made in their knees, but no procedure carried out.

Over the next two years, during which time none of the patients knew who had received the real operations and who had received the placebo treatment, all three groups reported moderate improvements in pain and function. In fact, the placebo group reported better results than some who had received the actual operation.

Raising the game
The placebo problem has been raised to another degree of complexity after Harvard’s professor of medicine Ted Kaptchuk decided to run a trial in which participants with irritable bowel syndrome were given a placebo but told that they indeed taking a sugar pill, while the other half of the group were given nothing  at all.  The placebo group were also told that placebos have been shown to create powerful mind-body self-healing.

Kaptchuk found that nearly two-thirds of his placebo group reported improvements in their symptoms — even more than had improved on a powerful new IBS drug called alosetron in a recent trial.

Drugs or thoughts?
This raises the very basic question I’ve wrestled with for a long time:  do pharmaceutical drugs ever work? Is it ever the chemical itself that heals, or is the mental expectation of healing enough to marshal the body’s healing mechanisms?

Other research bolsters the idea that the healer, or even the healing ritual itself, may be more powerful than any actual medical agent. A recent study of 83 rheumatoid arthritis patients attended by a homeopath concluded that the consultation with a sympathetic practitioner—rather than the remedy itself —was the cause of physical improvements noted by the patients.

Sometimes the expectation of healing can be a large factor in positive results. In one healing study of patients suffering from clinical depression, all the patients improved, even the control group, which did not receive healing, largely from the psychological boost created by the possibility of healing.

Healing rituals
There is also the power of healing rituals – the idea of ‘taking something,’ even if that something is known to be fake. In a recent analysis of 46,000 heart patients, half of whom were taking a placebo, the patients taking a placebo fared as well as those on the heart drug. The only factor determining survival seemed to be belief that the therapy will work and a willingness to follow it religiously.

Those who tended not to survive were those who had been lax with their regimen, regardless of whether they had been given a placebo or an actual drug.

Studies like these suggest that what we take doesn’t matter; the connection with the healer, the healing words and practices, the expectation of healing  — in other words, our thoughts about healing — are always what turns out to be the true healer.

Yosemite's Frazil Ice - you'll want to watch this!

Fascinating story and video!

      YOSEMITE'S FRAZIL  ICE

It is hard to imagine that Yosemite is only 60 miles from Fresno -- where it never ever snows and rarely gets below 32 F in the dead of winter.

This is an  incredible video!  It only happens in March and April.  I have never seen a creek come to a complete stop like this before and start up again someplace else.

It's like a lava flow.           Turn on your sound. Now just enjoy .........................

Great review of 2 present-day films

Following is Frank Rich's excellent review of two films, contrasting the values and principles of each -- perfectly reflecting our present-day era of corporate thievery versus the values our country was founded upon.  I have never been able to understand how right wing voters are unable to see the differences, but somehow are able to twist their minds to believe they are defending the old-time values when they vote for "representatives" who are bought and sold by corporations. Yet, the Republicans continue to defend their actions, even though their elected choices, such as Cheney and Bush, line their own pockets at the expense of the middle class and poor.  Those who vote Republican these days seem to be blind to the results of their votes.  They actually vote against their own interests--and their own loudly proclaimed and cherished values.  They will identify with Rooster Cogburn, but, with their votes, will make sure the powered and privileged continue to manipulate and control our world.

The One-Eyed Man is King

EXCERPT:
the latest “True Grit” juggernaut also has something to say about Americans yearning at a trying juncture in our history — much as it did the first time around. ...it is already the biggest draw of any Coen brothers film — poised to at least double the business of “No Country for Old Men,” their biggest previous hit. Revealingly, I think, it is attracting an even larger audience than “The Social Network,” a movie of equal quality with reviews to match and more timely cultural cachet. It turns out that “True Grit” is as much an escape for Americans now as it was in the Vietnam era.

Our age is hardly identical to that one, whatever the resonances between the Afghanistan and Vietnam wars, and whatever our own bouts of domestic violence. The new “True Grit” took off before the Tucson cataclysm in any event, and the movie’s broad appeal, like the demographics of its audience, transcends our running right-left debate. What is most stirring about “True Grit” today — besides the primal father-daughter relationship that blossoms between Rooster and Mattie — is its unalloyed faith in values antithetical to those of the 21st century America so deftly skewered, as it happens, in “The Social Network.”

More than the first “True Grit,” the new one emphasizes Mattie’s precocious, almost obsessive preoccupation with the law. She is forever citing law-book principles, invoking lawyers and affidavits, and threatening to go to court. “You must pay for everything in this world one way or another,” says Mattie. “There is nothing free except the grace of God.” That kind of legal and moral cost-accounting seems as distant as a tintype now. The new “True Grit” lands in an America that’s still not recovered from a crash where many of the reckless perpetrators of economic mayhem deflected any accountability and merely moved on to the next bubble, gamble or ethically dubious backroom deal. When Americans think of the law these days, they often think of a system that can easily be gamed by the rich and the powerful, starting with those who pillaged Lehman Brothers, A.I.G. and Citigroup and left taxpayers, shareholders and pensioners in the dust.

Talk about Two Americas. Look at “The Social Network” again after seeing “True Grit,” and you’ll see two different civilizations, as far removed from each other in ethos as Silicon Valley and Monument Valley. While “Social Network” fictionalizes Mark Zuckerberg, it mines the truth of an era — from the ability of the powerful and privileged to manipulate the system to the collapse of loyalty as a prized American virtue at the top of that economic pyramid.

In contrast to Mattie’s dictum, no one has to pay for any transgression in the world it depicts.

New Hampshire straw poll for 2012 Republican presidential candidates

The full results from the WMUR/ABC/N.H. Republican Party presidential straw poll are: Mitt Romney with 35% of the 273 ballots cast, Ron Paul with 11%, Tim Pawlenty with 8% and Sarah Palin with 7%. The remaining results: Michele Bachmann and Jim DeMint with 5% each; Herman Cain with 4%; Chris Christie, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Mitch Daniels and Mike Huckabee with 3% each; Rudy Giuliani, Judd Gregg, Gary Johnson and "other" with 2% each; and Donald Trump and Haley Barbour with 1% each. Thank Keith Olbermann

Passing this along -- please write to Keith Olbermann if you will miss him on MSNBC.  Far right wingers who read this blog, please control yourselves and do not write him the kinds of things you send to me.  For those who truly appreciated Keith's political observations: Watch Keith's final sign off -- and then sign the "Thank you, Keith" statement today.  I just wrote him the following:

Thanks, Keith, for being one of only a very few sane and truthful reporters in our country for so many years! I despise the fact that corporations have taken over our government and our world. It's obvious that Comcast didn't like you telling truth to the people. As soon as they took over MSNBC, out you went, as the first ouster on their agenda.  Greed and power lust on the part of corporations like Comcast, together with deregulation begun by Reagan and continued by Republicans after him, have taken away our democracy and turned it into an oligarchy.  I suppose Rachel Maddow will be the next head to roll, if she dares to speak truth as dynamically as you have. Please keep speaking out, Keith. Millions of us are listening--and hoping to hear more voices like yours as advocates for the people. Our Congressional representatives no longer represent us (if they ever did) -- their votes are bought and paid for by corporate lobbyists. What a sad state of affairs. As Pogo of the comic strip so wisely remarked, "We have met the enemy and he is us."  Please keep speaking out, Keith, in whatever ways you can! Your voice is needed in our country!

From: Adam Green, BoldProgressives.org>

As you may have heard, last night Keith Olbermann stunned viewers by announcing that it would be his last show on MSNBC.

He thanked the 300,000 of us who successfully petitioned last November to get him back on the air. Details of the latest saga are still coming out, but one thing's for sure: Keith spoke truth to power and he deserves our immense thanks.

Watch Keith's final sign off -- and then sign our "Thank you, Keith" statement today.

Keith Olbermann was fired

Keith Olbermann: Fired By MSNBC!
January 22nd, 2011 8:19 AM by Free Britney
Keith Olbermann, one of the best known cable news personalities on either side of the political spectrum, was abruptly fired yesterday by MSNBC.
Olbermann, in the middle of a four-year $30 million deal set to last until 2012, announced on last night's edition of Countdown that it was his last.
The dismissal is said to be at least indirectly related to Comcast's acquiring of NBC and the parent company's distaste for his defiance and attitude.
Here's Olberman signing off for the final time last night ...
Sources said network brass basically paid the pundit to scram by working out an agreement in which he would get lost and continue to be paid.
He will have to stay off the air at least until fall as a result.
MSNBC issued a vague, unemotional statement saying it ended its contract with Olbermann, who hosted the top rated show on the network.
The statement read in part, "MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors." Nice.
Olberman was suspended briefly a few months ago in light of some political donations the host made, but no one saw this swift exit coming.
Executives have said tensions between Olbermann and the network, which were palpable to begin with, have been running high since then.
Neither side has offered a formal explanation, but the network said 10 p.m. host Lawrence O'Donnell would move into Keith's slot Monday.
What do you think of the move? Is MSNBC crazy for bidding happy trails to such a high-rated host?  Truth and Wisdom comment: ABSOLUTELY! Whenever anyone dares to speak truth to the corporate heads who now rule our world, as OIbermann has done time and again, you can be sure their own head will roll. Comcast recently acquired MSNBC. You have to know Keith's firing and their acquisition are connected.

Seymour Hersh reveals "crusaders" in military

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/21/seymour-hersh-military-crusaders_n_812363.html

God bless Seymour Hersh, probably the last true investigative journalist left in our country.  All others have been silenced by the power-and-greed authoritarian military/industrial complex that now rules our world.  I have to laugh (through my tears) when I hear the far right fanatics complain about the "liberal" press.  What a joke that is!  Fundamentalists control the media, and we are fast becoming like Nazi Germany, where the only news one could get was filtered through the fascists.  FOX News is a direct pipeline to that kind of "news," and the far right crazies eat it up.  They love being called "dittoheads" by their hero, Rush Limbaugh. And that alone says a lot about them, doesn't it?

We live in an Age of Stupidity -- Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest

After having endured 8 long years of Duhmbya and his puppeteer Cheney, and having listened to the shrill dumbness of Sarah Palin, we should probably be immune to dumb comments from the far right.  But no, just when we think we have heard the absolute dumbest, along comes something even dumber!!! These people are not only dumb, they are bigots as well -- you have to wonder if there is anything in their craniums but cotton wool.  They are missing a vital part of the body--a brain.  I wish we could just give them their own planet to run into the ground, instead of ruining ours with their stupidity, lack of compassion and empathy, and refusal to learn anything new.

THE SAME OLD DUMB
By William Rivers Pitt

I endured a moment of deep crisis on Thursday, upon realizing that there might actually be more Pure Dumb in the world than I was aware of.

Now, understand that I have been a Chronicler of Dumb for a very long time now. I am a Student of Dumb, and a well-worn one at that. I got my Bachelor’s Degree in the Study of Dumb during the Clinton impeachment. I got my Masters in the aftermath of the 2000 (s)election. It took a grueling eight years, but I got my first Ph.D in Dumb Studies during the George W. Bush administration. After that, earning my second Dumb Studies Ph.D came a lot easier over the last two years of observing and reporting on the demented frenzy of Dumb that has been emanating from a broad swath of the Republican Party since the election of a president who is a Democrat and also not White.

I know Dumb, my friends, inside and out. But this “story” sent me into a death-spiral of total incomprehension and self-doubt for longer than I care to be honest about in the telling. I stared at the headline for an hour – “Michelle Obama’s ‘Get Moving’ Program Linked To Pedestrian Deaths” – like a proto-human trying to figure out the Moon. I think I even made a few proto-humanoid utterances – “Gu ba? Fuh buh duh wah…urp?” – in the process of trying to work my way through those nine words. Slowly, painfully, as if I had a combination of sand and ground fiberglass in my eyes, I turned my gaze to the beginning of the actual article.

Join the movement for truth - support brave, independent reporting today by making a contribution to Truthout.

The Governors Highway Safety Association says pedestrian deaths increased in the first half of 2010 and the First Lady's program to get Americans to be more active could be partly responsible.

Gu ba?

Fu bu duh wah?

Urp?

Yup.

You read that right.

The First Lady’s campaign to fight obesity by getting folks to – wait for it – walk around a bit is actually killing people. Michelle Obama is maiming and slaughtering amongst the masses by trying to get people to exercise.

It was at this point that I began to experience a deep and personal crisis of confidence. I thought I knew Dumb. I thought I understood Dumb. I thought, in fact, that I was moving beyond my superior scholastic degrees in the Study of Dumb to something more akin to Jedi status. And then here comes this thing, and wham! My legs get taken completely out from under me. I know nothing of Dumb, I said to myself in something close to wonder. I thought I did, but here is this vein of truly supernatural Dumb, here is Dumb with enough sheer mass to bend the very light.

I did not know this. Here was Dumb of epic proportions, and it had eluded me.

I was crushed.

Despondently, I read on. The rest of the article happened to mention that, well, yeah, more people are walking around with headphones in their ears – thanks to the rise of the iPod, cell phones that play music, and people who walk and talk on their cell phones and make you think they’re either talking to themselves or spouting gibberish at you, until you see the little earbug strapped to the side of their heads – and step into the road lost in their little dream world, unable to hear the screech of tires and blaring horn that would normally be the last sound they hear on earth…if they weren’t wearing headphones.

And, well, yeah, the article went on to mention in passing that there are entire legions of idiot drivers on the road who talk on cell phones and text their friends while manipulating very heavy and lethal machinery at high speeds through areas where other people are trying to walk. I live in Massachusetts, and they actually had to pass a law forbidding “Driving While Texting,” because “Having Just A Scintilla Of Common Sense” wasn’t getting the job done.

And, well, yeah, the ever-popular “Incredibly Drunk Person Who Wanders Into The Road And Gets Killed” got a mention in the article, along with what was described as “aggressive pedestrians,” a phenomenon I am all too familiar with in Boston. People around here hurl themselves into traffic as if they have 30 seconds to live and the cure is just across the street…sometimes wearing headphones, sometimes not, sometimes drunk, sometimes not, but definitely aggressive about it, and the local papers are filled each year with stories of such “aggressive pedestrians” losing their lives.

But no.

The lead paragraph – nay, the first two paragraphs and the headline – declared that First Lady Michelle Obama bears responsibilty for myriad deaths in America because of her fight against obesity. Her suggestion – hey you, walk around – has put the freight of many lost souls upon her head. She drowns in their blood.

I almost gave up right then and there. If this much Dumb could exist without my knowledge, I scolded myself, then I am no scholar, no Jedi.

But then, hey...wait a minute.

Hang on one damn minute.

The banner at the top of that article reads “Talk Radio.”

There is an advertisement in the banner for the Sean Hannity show.

Just below an advertisement for the Rush Limbaugh show.

And – how did I miss this? – a picture of Rush Limbaugh below the banner that is bigger than anything on the site.

Talk radio. Hannity. Rush. More Rush.

Ah.

OK.

Whew.

It was, I decided, the headline that threw me. I lost it for a bit there, but eventually figured it out. This is not some heretofore unknown species of Dumb that I had managed to miss, like a paleontologist who was unaware of the Tyrannosaurus Super-Rex living in his back yard.

This is just the Same Old Dumb.

I was restored.

Oh, and for the record: walking is awesome. My wife and I have not smoked a cigarette for a combined total of 70 days, and walking many miles has been a large part of the continued success of our quitting process. I am getting more fit, as is she, and the walking has as much to do with that as the lack of smoke in our lungs.

Thanks, Mrs. Obama. You played a part in saving our lives. Keep it up.

Send health care repeal hypocrites the form to repeal their own insurance

It's interesting, isn't it, how the Republicans have now begun to realize what a hot potato they are holding with their oh-so-loudly proclaimed "Obamacare" repeal? Now that some of the health care reforms have kicked in, it seems that most of the population has decided they really like the new benefits and don't want the law repealed.  Uh oh, a shift in the wind -- what do we do now, fella's?   Oh, let's give it a very quick vote and then say we're moving on to other things.  Maybe the people won't notice we all voted to get rid of the benefits they are now enjoying in the new law.  If you are a person who HAS noticed what the Repugs are trying to do, you can send the following form to the hypocrites who want to take away health care benefits from the rest of us, but won't give up their own:

From CredoAction:

Over the past two years, especially during the election, Republicans and a
select few Democrats did everything they could to derail health care
reform.

Now they've fulfilled their campaign promise and voted for a full repeal.
But what most haven't done is given up the affordable, subsidized federal
care that they voted today to deny so many of us.

Call out this health care hypocrisy. Send a Rep. who voted for repeal the
actual form to cancel their own federal insurance benefits:

Corporations win again -- an important message from Senator Al Franken

A big disappointment today: The FCC and the Department of Justice have signed off on the Comcast/NBC merger, paving the way for a single enormous media conglomerate to obtain unprecedented control over the flow of information in our country.

I’ll be candid with you: This is an awful development for those of us who care about media consolidation. It will restrict your freedom of choice and raise your cable and Internet bills. And it could pave the way for even more media mergers and even less room for independent voices in the media.

But the fight’s not over. We’re building a grassroots movement to stand up to the special interests and stand up for middle class consumers. And every time an American learns more about what’s at stake in this fight, our movement grows stronger.

Help to strengthen our grassroots movement -- share this message on FACEBOOK and TWITTER!

I know that these corporate elites have all the money and lots of influence -- even, it appears, with President Obama’s Department of Justice and an FCC chaired by one of his appointees.

And I know that this decision only validates their efforts to silence critics and punish dissenters.

But I’ve also seen how hard many of you worked to raise our collective voices and warn of the danger posed by corporate control of the media. And I’m confident that, if we take today’s setback as a cue to work even harder, we’ll win in the end and keep our media free.

I’ll be in touch soon to talk about next steps.

Thanks for standing with me,
AL FRANKEN

200 Dead Cows in Wisconsin, adds to animal deaths occurring in the world

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/18/200-dead-cows-wisconsin_n_810248.html

We have to ask the question: Can these mass deaths be one of the deleterious effects of chemtrails?  The large amount of aluminum and barium falling on us from trails being laid down almost daily in our skies may be affecting our birds and animals, as it is affecting the soil and water all over the western world. It is now evident to all who are curious enough to turn their eyes upward that spraying is being done in the skies of all NATO countries, but is being denied by the governments. See the documentary What In the World Are They Spraying? online in full.  It is a well done investigative report and is an eye opener, with credible scientists from around the world voicing their concerns and telling their scientific findings. This documentary is now available to be seen in full on several sites online. You can see it at: http://farmwars.info/?p=4449

I personally have many questions about this spraying, which was first proposed by Dr. Edward Teller in 1997. Following is an e-mail I sent out on January 6, 2002 on this subject. Not many people were paying attention to chemtrails back then -- those of us who were and were trying to warn about them were looked on as kooks.  Yet all one has to do is look in the sky on any given day and see these murky trails being laid down in profusion, spreading outward to cover the blue skies in a milky-gray color.  Anyway, following in black type is just a part of the e-mail I sent out in 2002.  Since then, the incidences of asthma in children and Alzheimer's in seniors (linked to aluminum: see http://www.rense.com/general37/alum.htm) have risen rapidly.
Perhaps more people are paying attention now. One can only hope:

Dr. Edward Teller and a colleague gave a paper at the International  Seminar on Planetary Emergencies, Sicily, Italy, on August 20-23, 1997.  You can read the entire paper if you have Acrobat Reader on your computer by going to www.rense.com and clicking on the article "Dr. Teller's Anti-Global Warming Chemtrail Scheme."  I was just outside at sunset and saw a plane zooming across our sky in the high atmosphere, laying down a chemtrail...they do a lot of this work at night as well as in the daytime.  Looks like they adopted Dr. Teller's plan.  The paper is full of high-sounding scientific jargon, but the parts about his suggestions for chemical spraying of particulates in our skies are highlighted in yellow.  For anyone who can't get into the file, I've copied off the important parts:

ABSTRACT (Page one)
It has been suggested that large-scale climate changes, mostly due to atmospheric injection of "greenhouse gases" connected with fossil-fired energy production, should be forestalled by internationally agreed reductions in e.g., electricity generation.  The potential economic impacts of such limitations are obviously large--greater than 610 to the 11th power/year (Note from Eileen: obviously a lot of money--I am not a mathematician so can't tell you what this is translated into dollars).  We propose that for far smaller--less than 1%--costs, the mean thermal effects of "greenhouse gases" may be obviated in any of several distinct ways, some of them novel.  These suggestions are all based on scatterers that prevent a small fraction of solar radiation from reaching all or part of the Earth.  We propose research directed to quite near-term realization of one or more of these inexpensive approaches to cancel the effects of the "greenhouse gas" injection.

Later on in page 4 of the text, which runs for 21 pages, Teller and the 2 other authors of this devious plan suggest atmospheric "scattering":

In principle, the most effective of all possible scatterers are atoms or molecules that scatter light in resonance.  Such extremely strong scatttering can be obtained for light of a frequency adapted to a specific atom or molecule.  The simplest example would be scattering of a narrow band of red light by lithium atoms or of yellow light by sodium atoms.  Unfortunately, such exceptionally strong scatterings occur only in the immediate neighborhood of an atomic transition-frequency, and the atom will selectively interact with light of frequencies which deviates from the resonant one by about one part in ten million (for visible light).  This difficulty can be overcome by broadening the resonance (accompanied by a proportionate weakening of the scattering-strength) or by using scatterers that have many separate resonances--or, most effectively, by a combination of these two approaches.  Of the order of l million tons of such resonant-type scattering material are estimated to suffice to remove 1% of the total insolation of the Earth; the corresponding cost may be $0.3-0.75 billion/year.

In other words, rather than decrease the emissions we are daily sending into the air from our factories, oil refineries, big cars, etc., it is far better, according to Dr. Teller, to further pollute the air with spraying of one million tons of particulates!  I am no scientist, but some very knowledgable scientists who are dismayed/disturbed/angered by the chemtrails we have been seeing in our skies all over the world since 1998 (note that this paper was presented in late summer of 1997, so they really got busy putting their evil deed into action quickly, didn't they?) have analyzed the residues from the skies in areas where they live and have identified aluminum oxide particulates and other types of particulates.  One of these scientists is Clifford Carnicom.  Look into his site at http://www.carnicom.com/contrails.htm and also read the answer he got from the Environmental Protection Agency in 1999 to his inquiries about chemtrail spraying at:  http://www.netowne.com/environmental/contrails/carnicom.htm
Of course, it is your typical denial letter..."what? we don't know anything about this kind of spraying...etc., etc."  In other words, believe the government and don't trust your lying eyes.

If you are interested in finding out how we have all been bamboozled, betrayed, and subjected to this toxic spraying by our own government, without our knowledge or permission, using our tax dollars against us, you might also want to look at www.chemtrailcentral.com to familiarize yourself with this subject.  And then write or call your representatives/senators and demand some answers from the government!

I am blazing angry about this, as you can probably tell.  Many people are reporting respiratory ailments and other illnesses in themselves and in their babies/children that they believe are directly related to this spraying, which is taking place on a DAILY basis all over our planet!!!  It stands to reason that spraying aluminum oxide into our already toxic skies every day is probably not very good for us!  And we had no say in it whatsoever...and if we inquire about it, we are stonewalled.  So much for trusting the government.

A few nights ago, Bill Moyers presented on PBS a very interesting documentary called "Trade Secrets," which told all about chemical companies' devious and deliberate refusal over the past 40 plus years to tell their employees and the public about the extremely detrimental effects of their chemicals such as PVC that have killed many, many people.  Moyers said it is a huge experiment on our children, none of whom is being born without these chemicals in their blood!  If, as a parent/grandparent of a small child or grandchild, you are upset by this information, get on the bandwagon to let these chemical companies and our congressional representatives know we won't stand for this kind of treatment any longer!  Their lobbyists are so strong, the only state in the country that has passed a "right-to-know" law (as to what is in the things we are buying) is California.  In all other states that have proposed this, the lobbyists and their courting of representatives/senators who care more for the money than they do for the people they represent, have knocked the proposals out of the ballpark.  And NO testing/research is being done to see if these chemicals are safe for humans.  Even though the chemical companies promised such testing/research, they've done NOTHING about it.  If you haven't seen it, get a copy of the video or transcript of this Moyers presentation.

I am identifying very strongly these days with that guy in the movie NETWORK, who hollered out the window, "I'm mad as hell, and I won't take it anymore!"

The only way things will change on this planet is if we become informed and storm the gates of Congress through letters, phone calls, and our votes.  If you're not satisfied with the way things are going, please join with me in this endeavor.

Along with a wish for a peaceful, clean world where our children and grandchildren can be raised healthfully and happily, I sign off with love to you all,

60 Minutes Exposes Harmful Drug and Deadly Practices at Largest Drug Company (video and article)

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/01/18/sixty-minutes-exposes-why-you-cant-trust-drug-companies.aspx

It's important for us "little folk" to keep up on stories like this one, which comes from a doctor who is being interviewed on TV by Dr. Oz today.
You can see a trailer for the show here. You can go to this link to find out where it is aired in your area. If you want to watch it right now, you can go their site and view it.

My sister took Vioxx for years before the news leaked out that it was a killer. Merck tried to keep that a secret, just as Glaxo-Smith-Kline tried to keep this information from the public.  In this age of corporate rule of the world (deregulation since the '80s), we must be our own advocates, since the drug companies are "policing" themselves (you can imagine how well -- read about it in the article)  I include a few excerpts below, but you may want to read the entire article for full information:

EXCERPT:

GSK's blockbuster diabetes drug Avandia made headlines again last year when it became clear that the drug not only had major risks, but that GSK kept the dangers of the drug under tight wraps—for a very long time.

As it turns out, GSK spent 11 years covering up trial data that showed that Avandia was a risky drug for the heart—again providing indisputable evidence that the drug paradigm is about money, not health. Avandia topped the list of drugs linked to fatal adverse events in 2009, according to an analysis of U.S. FDA records, with 1,354 deaths reported that year alone. As a result, the FDA recently decided to restrict access to the drug.

In the US, Avandia is now only available to new patients if they are unable to achieve glycemic control using other medications and, in consultation with their health care professional, decide not to take a different drug for medical reasons. Europe decided to ban the drug due to its exaggerated health risks.

One aspect that truly worries me is that while the criminal cases we've seen in the past several years are related to drugs, many of these companies, including GSK, also produce VACCINES.

And guess what?

They're typically not liable for damages from, or harm done by, contaminated or otherwise dangerous vaccines! We've recently seen evidence of "mistakes" in vaccine manufacturing as well, but vaccine makers are rarely if ever punished for these willful errors and omissions, which should provide you some further food for thought.

What Happened at the Cidra Plant?

The problems at Cidra were first revealed by an FDA inspection. Eckard's quality assurance team was then sent in by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to address those concerns, back in 2002. But when Eckard uncovered even more disturbing issues than those found by the FDA, her superiors simply ignored her.

Many may not realize this, but the FDA does NOT inspect drug manufacturing facilities at regular intervals. In between spot-checks, drug companies are left to police themselves. In the past year alone we've seen numerous instances where this self-policing has failed, as a long list of drugs have been recalled for a variety of different quality and safety issues.

At the time, the Cidra plant was making 20 patented drugs for the US market, and when Eckard saw what was happening at the plant, she was shocked, and worried about patient safety. "All the systems were broken, the facility was broken, the equipment was broken, the processes were broken. It was the worst thing I had run across in my career," she tells 60 Minutes' correspondent Scott Pelley.

Some of the problems included:

  • Using water contaminated with bacteria to make tablets
  • Failures on production lines that led to inconsistent dosages
  • Employees contaminating products by not following procedures

As an example, Eckard claims employees would open the lid to the sealed tank containing the anti-bacterial ointment Bactroban, and stick half their bodies into the tank to scrape it out. "It saved money," she replies when asked why anyone would consider doing such a thing. But that's not even the worst of the problems Eckard uncovered.

GSK Knowingly Put Patients' Lives at Risk to Save a Buck

Due to various production line failures, powerful medications were also getting mixed up. Potent and potentially dangerous drugs were literally ending up in the wrong bottles! The antidepressant Paxil was mixed into bottles of Avandia, a diabetes drug. And Avandia was found in packages of the over-the-counter antacid Tagamet. All in all, Eckard identified nine different mix-ups of various drugs.

She urged the vice president of quality assurance for North America to stop the trucks from leaving the dock the day she discovered the mix-ups, and to shut down the factory and contact the FDA. But nothing happened… And, when one such mix-up was later discovered by a patient, GSK denied it ever happened.  But "we all knew, they all knew it was real," Eckard says.

Finally, after eight months of reporting problems at the plant, Eckard sent a summary to seven executives detailing the numerous quality problems, warning that if the FDA knew of these issues, the plant would likely be seized.

Just weeks later, Eckard was out of a job. Concerned for the welfare of patients taking the affected drugs, she blew the whistle and notified the FDA. Federal agents searched the plant and seized hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of defective drugs. In the end, GSK pleaded guilty to a felony: knowingly manufacturing and selling adulterated drugs, manufactured between 2001 and 2005.

Their punishment for putting people's health at such incredible risk?

A grand total of $150 million in criminal fines and $600 million in civil penalties—little more than a slap on the wrist. None of the actual people who allowed it to happen suffered any ill consequence as a result of their actions, aside from the one who blew the whistle...

What Can You Expect from GSK in the Future?

Well, considering the fact that media mogul Rupert Murdoch's son, James Murdoch, is now a member of GSK's corporate responsibility committee (a position he entered in May 2009), I predict we'll see more of the same types of cover-ups in the future.

James Murdoch, as you may know, is also the chairman and chief executive of News Corporation Europe and Asia, and chairman of BSkyB. I can only imagine the extent to which GSK can benefit from having a media mogul on their pay roll. Clearly they've thought this one through, and it makes perfect sense when you consider the clout they need to keep the media quiet about their various wrongdoings...

Having Murdoch in a role to oversee their corporate responsibilities is like having a top mobster as the god-father of your child. I think it's safe to say that if strings need to be pulled, they will be pulled—hard.

The GOP's War on Logic

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/17/opinion/17krugman.html?_r=1&hp

EXCERPT: The key to understanding the G.O.P. analysis of health reform is that the party’s leaders are not, in fact, opposed to reform because they believe it will increase the deficit. Nor are they opposed because they seriously believe that it will be “job-killing” (which it won’t be). They’re against reform because it would cover the uninsured — and that’s something they just don’t want to do.

And it’s not about the money. As I tried to explain in my last column, the modern G.O.P. has been taken over by an ideology in which the suffering of the unfortunate isn’t a proper concern of government, and alleviating that suffering at taxpayer expense is immoral, never mind how little it costs.

Given that their minds were made up from the beginning, top Republicans weren’t interested in and didn’t need any real policy analysis — in fact, they’re basically contemptuous of such analysis, something that shines through in their health care report. All they ever needed or wanted were some numbers and charts to wave at the press, fooling some people into believing that we’re having some kind of rational discussion. We aren’t.

One of my favorite politicians speaks out

And I agree with every word he says ... I think the people of Wisconsin lost a wonderful representative when they voted Russ Feingold out of office.  He and Dennis Kucinich were about the only people in Congress whom I trusted, because they stayed true to their values and really care about the people they were elected to represent.  I am glad that Feingold is still going to continue his efforts to make the necessary changes our country so desperately needs:
