Damaging to Syracuse image: White school guard insults black Downs Syndrome child

Stupid Fools are everywhere. And you can't cure them. This school "security guard" should be made to apologize to the child's family, and then be fired immediately and given community duty to perform in the black neighborhoods of Syracuse. His atrocious ignorance needs education.

As A 'Joke,' White School Guard Tells Black Student With Down Syndrome To 'Assume The Position'

A bizarre incident between a white school security guard and a black student with Down Syndrome has parents and teachers baffled and furious.

An excited 12-year-old Brandon Pearson, who has Down Syndrome, began his first day at Huntington K-8 School in the Eastwood neighborhood of Syracuse, New York on Tuesday.

He arrived at school accompanied by his mother, Brandiss Pearson, her husband and her father.  The family stopped near the entrance to take photos of a mural in the hall.

As they snapped photos, a white school security guard approached them.

"Wait, wait, wait, hold on," Brandiss Pearson says the guard shouted as he rushed up to them, grabbing Brandon and turning him to face the wall. The security guard then placed Brandon's hands against the wall as if he was about to frisk him for weapons.

"And he starts laughing and says, ‘Now take the picture, he's in the right position,'" Brandiss said.

Fortunately, having Down Syndrome, Brandon was oblivious to the insult he had just suffered at the hands of this security guard who insists that he was "just joking" with the boy.  Brandon continued to smile as Down Syndrome children do all the time.

Brandiss, her husband and father were not so ready to forgive and forget however.

"I was shaking, just like fire-breathing mad," she said. "All he saw was a little black boy who needed to assume the position."

Pearson is a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital Heath Center and is working on her master's degree at Upstate University.  She is also on the board of directors for Home HeadQuarters a non-profit dedicated to revitalizing neighborhoods and helping disadvantaged people to improve their lives and own homes.

"Nothing that I've accomplished can change what some people see," Brandiss said.

Although Brandon's father did snap a photo of the incident, he said that he has since deleted it because it enraged him to relive the incident.

On Tuesday afternoon, Pearson complained to the school's principal.  On Wednesday morning, she confronted the security guard in the hallway of the school.  She said that when she confronted him, he laughed and told her that he thought it was "a funny joke."

Michael Henesey, coordinator of communications for the school district read a prepared statement on Wednesday:

"We are in receipt of the complaint filed against one of our school sentries.  The school district has begun an internal investigation into the alleged complaint. The school sentry in question has been placed on administrative leave while the district conducts the investigation. We will not be releasing any more information at this time."

The one good thing in all of this is the fact that Brandon will suffer no emotional scarring from the incident.  Children with Down Syndrome are very loving of everyone they come in contact with and see the good in everyone.

Re. One of my favorite videos--it's not the one that comes up with the link I sent

It has been pointed out to me that the URL link I sent re. one of my favorite videos does not take you to it, even though it is the correct URL (as you'll see if you elect to see the video below--the URL will match the one I sent).  Who knows what goes on in our mysterious and way-too-confusing technological realms? Quantum physics is easier to figure out (~.~).   Anyway, if you want to see the one I meant, it is called It's Time to Wake Up -- We Are All One and you can click on it below --and hopefully will be taken directly to it.  If that doesn't work, you can find it in the right sidebar if you have clicked on the link I sent originally which, for some strange reason, (though it is the right URL for the video below) calls up a different video.

Got 16 minutes? This has become one of my favorite videos

Jim Carrey and others tell of their experience/understanding of quantum physics.  I've never seen Jim Carrey so deeply earnest and sincere.  You feel as though you have gotten to know the real man under the buffoon character he plays (but, true to form, he can't resist adding a bit of the buffoonery at the end).  I am very impressed with this video and especially with the explanation of quantum physics given by Quantum physicist, Dr. John Hagelin, also a very sincere, intelligent man who seems to be talking not only from his quantum physics knowledge but also from his own experience.

The Illusion of Reality: Quantum Physics and Consciousness

This video is only 10 minutes long, but it is one of the Best EVER in explaining consciousness and quantum theory. Through many scientific voices, it tells how we are creating what we call reality with every thought.  Right now in this world we seem to be living in a fear-based reality...which is being stoked by those to whom we have given power.  Refusal to follow their lead can change the world we observe and seemingly participate in.  Watch the video and be amazed at the scientifically proven truth it offers to those who can hear with open minds and hearts:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRkDicwjRQs

A new paradigm is opening us to higher understanding.  Physicist Michio Kaku says we are on the verge of transitioning from a type zero civilization into a type one civilization.  Watch his short 6-minute video explanation of this at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NPC47qMJVg

I know some who receive this message will resonate with these video presentations.  And some may not. Those who are committed to tradition and conservative attitudes might find it difficult to understand at first.  It appears the time of rigid, static thinking has had its day in our world. New knowledge is making its way into the minds of Earth humans.  But the old fundamentalist ways of thinking (and warring) are mounting last-ditch efforts to continue.   As Micho Kaku points out, as a civilization we are on the brink of a transition that can go one way or another--either backward into self-destruction or forward into self-realization.  I believe we will go forward in understanding, toward a more open-minded view that will see us becoming a type one civilization.

However, as the first video above tells us, no matter how our world appears, quantum physics has proven it will still be a holographic illusion.  Consciousness, individually and collectively, is creating Everything we see--and is far greater than we can ever imagine.  The God particle we have been searching for is us.

Wonderfully and Astoundingly Amazing, isn't it???

Ever see Bill O'Reilly speechless?

Impossible, you say?  Well, it came close in his debate with Megyn Kelly re. white privilege in this country.  What a pleasure it was, for just this one time, to see someone in a conversation with O'Reilly actually GET TO SPEAK without being interrupted by bullying shout-overs!!!  OMG! What NEXT? Will pigs begin to fly????

To see this extraordinary, probably never-to-be-seen-again moment on FOX, go to:  http://www.salon.com/2014/08/26/bill_oreilly_gets_schooled_on_white_privilege_by_megyn_kelly/

Kelly is a lawyer -- and her ratings on FOX have gone higher than O'Reilly's.  He is obviously cowed by her.  He is SO transparent!  Thinks he is Big Man on Campus and is just a snively little jerk. He's met his match in Kelly, who actually had some true things to say about differences in life situations between whites and blacks.  Imagine that on FOX!  It almost feels like we have entered an alternative universe.  But Kelly brings us back to Earth in the end, returning to Murdoch's Fox guidelines... Sigh. It was to be expected. But for a few moments, it was heavenly to hear truth actually being spoken on Fox.  Will wonders never cease?

Global Warming Rages On -- But Let's Not Worry....we MIGHT adapt

Excerpt:

The report says if the world continues to spew greenhouse gases at its accelerating rate, it's likely that by mid-century temperatures will increase by about another 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius) compared to temperatures from 1986 to 2005. And by the end of the century, that scenario will bring temperatures that are about 6.7 degrees warmer (3.7 degrees Celsius).

"The report tells us once again what we know with a greater degree of certainty: that climate change is real, it is caused by us, and it is already causing substantial damage to us and our environment," Pennsylvania State University climate scientist Michael Mann wrote in an email. "If there is one take home point of this report it is this: We have to act now."

John Christy of the University of Alabama, Huntsville, is in the tiny minority of scientists who are skeptical of mainstream science's claim that global warming is a major problem. He says people will do OK: "Humans are clever. We shall adapt to whatever happens."  (Note where this comment comes from. The South, where many still think they got robbed in the Civil War and that whites should still have black slaves... perhaps not the kind of consciousness you want to use as your main guide in this climate change matter.  Or Fox News, either.)  To my liberal friends in the south:  may your numbers increase!

Draft Of Upcoming IPCC Report Presents Stark View Of The Future As Climate Change Rages On

WASHINGTON (AP) — Global warming is here, human-caused and probably already dangerous — and it's increasingly likely that the heating trend could be irreversible, a draft of a new international science report says.

The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on Monday sent governments a final draft of its synthesis report, which combines three earlier, gigantic documents by the Nobel Prize-winning group. There is little in the report that wasn't in the other more-detailed versions, but the language is more stark and the report attempts to connect the different scientific disciplines studying problems caused by the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and gas.

The 127-page draft, obtained by The Associated Press, paints a harsh warning of what's causing global warming and what it will do to humans and the environment. It also describes what can be done about it.

"Continued emission of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and long-lasting changes in all components of the climate system, increasing the likelihood of severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts for people and ecosystems," the report says. The final report will be issued after governments and scientists go over the draft line by line in an October conference in Copenhagen.

Depending on circumstances and values, "currently observed impacts might already be considered dangerous," the report says. It mentions extreme weather and rising sea levels, such as heat waves, flooding and droughts. It even raises, as an earlier report did, the idea that climate change will worsen violent conflicts and refugee problems and could hinder efforts to grow more food. And ocean acidification, which comes from the added carbon absorbed by oceans, will harm marine life, it says.

Without changes in greenhouse gas emissions, "climate change risks are likely to be high or very high by the end of the 21st century," the report says.

In 2009, countries across the globe set a goal of limiting global warming to about another 2 degrees Fahrenheit above current levels. But the report says that it is looking more likely that the world will shoot past that point. Limiting warming to that much is possible but would require dramatic and immediate cuts in carbon dioxide pollution.

While projections show that the world will warm and climate will change, there's still a level of uncertainty about how much, and that makes the problem all about how much risk we accept, said MIT climate scientist Kerry Emanuel.

If it's soon and only a little risk, he said, that's not too bad, but when you look at the risk curve the other end of it is "very frightening."

The report used the word risk 351 times in just 127 pages.

A 9-year-old girl shot and killed her shooting instructor Monday in northwest Arizona.

The Associated Press reported that the accident took place around 10 a.m. at a shooting range in Dolan Springs.

The 39-year-old instructor, identified as Charles Vacca, was airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas, where he later died.

The outdoor Bullets and Burgers shooting range attracts tourists along U.S. 93 between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

“Our guests have the opportunity to fire a wide range of fully automatic machine guns and specialty weapons,” the website claims. “At our range, you can shoot FULL auto on our machine guns.

“Let ‘em Rip!”

The girl, who was vacationing with her parents, fired an automatic 9-mm Uzi as she stood near the instructor.

Investigators said the girl held on to the gun as it recoiled, causing the weapon to lift above her head.

At least one bullet struck Vacca in the head.

The shooting remains under investigation.

I agree completely with Cornel West's assessment of Obama

I'm not usually a fan of Cornel West, whose self-appointed bombastic intellectualism can sometimes be too much in-your-face, but this time he has said it perfectly.  His analysis of Obama and Hillary Clinton, to my mind, are right on!  And the same for his opinion of Rev. Al Sharpton....  West tells it like it is!

Cornel West: Obama a ‘brown-faced Clinton’ in charge of ‘a Wall Street and drone presidency’

By Scott Kaufman

In an interview with Salon’s Thomas Frank, public intellectual Cornel West expressed the depths of his disappointment with the presidency of Barack Obama.

“The thing is,” West told Frank, Obama “posed as a progressive and turned out to be counterfeit. We ended up with a Wall Street presidency, a drone presidency, a national security presidency. The torturers go free. The Wall Street executives go free. The war crimes in the Middle East, especially now in Gaza, the war criminals go free.”

“He posed as if he was a kind of Lincoln,” West continued, but “we ended up with a brown-faced Clinton. Another opportunist. Another neoliberal opportunist.”

On the topic of the current racial relations in the United States, West said that, “with Ferguson, you get it reconfirmed even among the people within his own circle now, you see. It’s a sad thing. It’s like you’re looking for John Coltrane and you get Kenny G in brown skin.”

West blamed Obama’s failures as a president to his “modus operandi,” which is to always “occupy the middle ground.”

“He doesn’t realize that a great leader, a statesperson, doesn’t just occupy middle ground,” West said. “They occupy higher ground or the moral ground or even sometimes the holy ground. But the middle ground is not the place to go if you’re going to show courage and vision. And I think that’s his modus operandi. He always moves to the middle ground. It turned out that historically, this was not a moment for a middle-ground politician. We needed a high-ground statesperson and it’s clear now he’s not the one.”

“And so what did he do?” West asked. “Every time you’re headed toward middle ground what do you do? You go straight to the establishment and reassure them that you’re not too radical, and try to convince them that you are very much one of them.”

West also attacked MSNBC host Al Sharpton, saying “when you say the name ‘Al Sharpton,’ the word integrity does not come to mind. So you got low-quality black leadership. Al Sharpton is who? He’s a cheerleader for Obama. MSNBC, state press, it’s all Obama propaganda, and Sharpton is the worst. Sharpton said explicitly, I will never say a critical word about the president under any condition. That’s why he can’t stand what I’m saying. He can’t stand what I do because, for him, it’s an act of racial traitorship to be critical of the president. There’s no prophetic integrity in his leadership.”

As to the idea that a Hillary Clinton presidency might improve matters, West was unequivocal. “Hillary Clinton is an extension of Obama’s Wall Street presidency, drone presidency, national surveillance, national security presidency,” he said. “She’d be more hawkish than he is, and yet she’s got that strange smile that somehow titillates liberals and neo-liberals and scares Republicans.”

Leonard Cohen speech at Prince of Asturias Award in Spain

Beautiful speech by Leonard Cohen. Only 11 minutes long.  The Prince of Asturia awards are given by Spain's monarchy.  They are the dignitaries the camera keeps panning to.  Cohen is from Canada, part of the British commonwealth.  Leonard long has been known for his love of Frederico Garcia Lorca, a world famous Spanish poet.  He named his daughter "Lorca".  The gratitude story here about a young man teaching Leonard the rudiments of flamenco guitar also demonstrates just how deeply Leonard has been influenced by Spanish arts.

Murders of Innocents Because of Religion

Yes, it's still happening on this planet--the murders of innocent people because of their religion.  We are seeing ISIS brutally execute Christians for no reason other than their religious beliefs. Just like innocents of other nations and other times have been and are being murdered because of their religion.  In the Crusades it was the Christians who were doing the murdering--in the name of Christ. And on and on it goes...

For the most part, this planet is not a place of evolved souls -- many are still in the beginning stages of learning.  What you do to others, you do to yourself is a very true statement.  Apparent "others" are ourselves--literally.  There is only One Energy playing all the parts....over and over and over.  Religions have been a necessary evil in an unevolved world, to restrain the brutal impulses of the ignorant. But they don't really work, because those who gain power in the religions are unevolved and conscienceless...and brutal.  The crazies take over the asylum and murder of innocents is the result.

I do feel some optimism, even in these dark times, because science (in the form of quantum physics) is now verifying what mystics/sages have tried to tell us over the centuries--we are all One, appearing as many -- but always and only the One. The world, the universe, and all the apparent separate beings in it are a mirage, an illusion very much like a hologram. Our true nature is spiritual--our true essence never dies.  It just incarnates over and over, in apparently different bodies, learning a little more each time.  Some on this planet have grown to understand this -- and their numbers are increasing, slowly but surely.

Jesus, in his great wisdom, cautioned not to throw pearls before swine.  The swine are still among us, so to speak -- those whose minds are closed to the true message of great beings like Christ who have visited this planet time and again in order to instill the understanding of Oneness (nonduality) in those who could hear.  Up until now, very few through the ages could hear the clear message of love and peace--and Oneness.  But more are becoming awakened now, with the help of scientific advances that are pointing us toward the metaphysical realm for answers as to who/what we really are.

As one online site puts it,

What Does Quantum Physics Say About Nonduality?

Discoveries in Quantum Science have upended many traditional beliefs held by Western culture regarding the solidity of the world and its independent reality. The discovery that the world was, in fact, round and not flat took generations to filter into the general society. Like this, 20th Century discoveries of Quantum Mechanics have not penetrated into high school educational texts yet.  Over the next decades, what has been known for almost 50 years will become common knowledge in mainstream culture. This knowledge will radically change how we interact with each other and the world.

Quantum Science does not explain nonduality; but familiarity with its conclusions does provide a terrific benefit: it dislodges and destabilizes our belief systems regarding the independent existence of the material world and our relationship to it.  This destabilization quickly allows for a renewed, more open investigation into the nature of our experience of the body, mind and world. Until these rigid, fixed assumptions fall away, the full force of our direct experience is as if hidden. The great joke is that it is hidden by  us, from us.

An open mind is necessary to allow in new knowledge and understanding.  Religions are closed-minded, rigid, and power-and-rule-invested/infested. In order to keep the "faithful" in line, the rules have to be rigorous and unyielding -- and the punishment for disobeying them must be extreme (loss of Heaven, pains of Hell, etc.).  These have been made into simplistic, juvenile pictures for the kind of consciousness that is prevalent on Earth.  Jesus spoke in simple parables because he knew his followers were otherwise unable to understand the principles he was teaching.  I am hopeful that more mature understanding is developing in the minds of many on the planet at this time.  Scientists, doctors, neurosurgeons and the like are having near-death experiences and reporting them to the world.  Although many others have had this kind of experience throughout the centuries, unless they had credentials honored by the world at large, their stories have mostly been ignored by the general populace.  But when credentialed doctors, physicists, etc. begin to report the same kinds of experiences -- and with quantum physics now dovetailing scientific "facts" with the mystical wisdom teachings of the ages, perhaps more minds will be opened.  And Earth, as a planet, will start to come out of the Dark Ages.

We can only hope -- and learn -- and grow.  It's the only way things will change.

TIPS FOR BEING AN UNARMED BLACK TEEN

TIPS FOR BEING AN UNARMED BLACK TEEN
from The Onion  (not really tongue-in-cheek on this article)

With riots raging in Ferguson, MO following the shooting death by police of an unarmed African-American youth, the nation has turned its eyes toward social injustice and the continuing crisis of race relations. Here are The Onion’s tips for being an unarmed black teen in America:

  • Shy away from dangerous, heavily policed areas.
  • Avoid swaggering or any other confident behavior that suggests you are not completely subjugated.
  • Be sure not to pick up any object that could be perceived by a police officer as a firearm, such as a cell phone, a food item, or nothing.
  • Explain in clear and logical terms that you do not enjoy being shot, and would prefer that it not happen.
  • Don’t let society stereotype you as a petty criminal. Remember that you can be seen as so much more, from an armed robbery suspect, to a rape suspect, to a murder suspect.
  • Try to see it from a police officer’s point of view: You may be unarmed, but you’re also black.
  • Avoid wearing clothing associated with the gang lifestyle, such as shirts and pants.
  • Revel in the fact that by simply existing, you exert a threatening presence over the nation’s police force.
  • Be as polite and straightforward as possible when police officers are kicking the shit out of you.

More govt. red herrings re. UFOs

Their method of operation is to "confuse the hell out of the public." They've been doing that since the very beginning...and are still using the same tactics. Mainstream journalists, instead of investigating for themselves, will go along with anything the world governments try to sell them.  This UK Guardian article and new documentary it tells about are perfect examples of that:

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/08/15/snowden-files-the-real-men-in-black-hollywood-and-the-great-ufo-false-flag/

New Documentary MIRAGE MEN (probably made by the government) swishes more red herrings across the trail....

In a new documentary, US government agents claim they spent decades giving fake evidence of extraterrestrials to gullible ufologists. But why? And how can we trust them now?

Hidden among the avalanche of documents leaked by Edward Snowden were images from a Powerpoint presentation by GCHQ, entitled The Art of Deception: Training for a New Generation of Online Covert Operations. Images include camouflaged moths, inflatable tanks, women in burqas, and complex diagrams plastered with jargon, buzzwords and slogans: “Disruption Operational Playbook”, “Swap the real for the false and vice versa”, “People make decisions as part of groups” and, beneath a shot of hands shuffling a deck of cards, “We want to build Cyber Magicians“. Curiously, sandwiched in the middle of the document are three photographs of UFOs. Not real ones – classic fakes: one was a hub cap, another a bunch of balloons, and one that turned out to be a seagull.

Devout ufologists might seize upon this as further proof that our governments “know something” about aliens and their transportation methods, but really it suggests the opposite: the UFO community is a textbook case of a gullible group susceptible to manipulation. Having spent too long watching the skies and The X-Files, it’s implied, they’ll readily swallow whatever snippet of “evidence” suits their grand theory.

If there really is a UFO conspiracy, it’s surely the worst-kept secret in history. Roswell, Area 51, flashing lights, little green men, abductions – it’s all been fed through the pop culture mill to the point of fatigue. Even the supposed enforcers of the secret, the “men in black”, have their own movie franchise. But a new documentary, Mirage Men, unearths compelling evidence that UFO folklore was actually fabricated by the US government. Rather than covering up the existence of aliens, could it be that the real conspiracy has been persuading us to believe in them?

Mirage Men’s chief coup is to land an actual man in black: a former Air Force special investigations officer named Richard Doty, who admits to having infiltrated UFO circles. A fellow UFO researcher says: “Doty had this wonderful way to sell it – ‘I’m with the government. You cooperate with us and I’m going to tell you what the government really knows about UFOs, deep down in those vaults.’” Doty and his colleagues fed credulous ufologists lies and half-truths, knowing their fertile imaginations would do the rest. In return, they were apprised of chatter from the community, thus alerting the military when anyone was getting to close to their top-secret technology. And if the Soviets thought the US really was communing with aliens, all the better.

The classic case, well-known to conspiracy aficionados, is Paul Bennewitz, a successful electronics entrepreneur in New Mexico. In 1979, Bennewitz started seeing strange lights in the sky, and picking up weird transmissions on his amateur equipment. The fact that he lived just across the road from Kirtland air force base should have set alarm bells ringing, but Bennewitz was convinced these phenomena were of extraterrestrial origin. Being a good patriot, he contacted the Air Force, who realised that, far from eavesdropping on ET, Bennewitz was inadvertently eavesdropping on them. Instead of making him stop, though, Doty and other officers told Bennewitz they were interested in his findings. That encouraged Bennewitz to dig deeper. Within a few years, he was interpreting alien languages, spotting crashed alien craft in the hills from his plane (he was an amateur pilot), and sounding the alert for a full-scale invasion. All the time, the investigators were surveilling him surveilling them. They gave Bennewitz computer software that “interpreted” the signals, and even dumped fake props for him to discover. The mania took over Bennewitz’s life. In 1988, his family checked him into a psychiatric facility.

There’s plenty more like this. As Mirage Men discovers, central tenets of the UFO belief system turn out to have far earthlier origins. Mysterious cattle mutilations in 1970s New Mexico turn out to have been officials furtively investigating radiation in livestock after they’d conducted an ill-advised experiment in underground “nuclear fracking”. Test pilots for the military’s experimental silent helicopters admit to attaching flashing lights to their craft to fool civilians. Doty himself comes across as a slippery character, to say the least. “He remains an absolute enigma,” says Mark Pilkington, writer of the book Mirage Men, the basis for the documentary. He found the retired Doty working as a traffic cop in a small New Mexico town. “Some of what he said was true and I’m sure a lot of it wasn’t, or was a version of the truth. I have no doubt Rick was at the bottom of a ladder that stretches all the way to Washington. It’s unclear to what extent he was following orders and to what taking matters into his own hands.”

Doty almost admits to having had a hand in supposedly leaked “classified” documents, such as the “Majestic 12″ dossier – spilling the beans on a secret alien liaison committee founded by President Truman. But he denies involvement in the “Project Serpo” papers – which claimed that 12 American military personnel paid a secret visit to an alien planet in the Zeta Reticuli system – only to be caught out as the source of the presumed hoax. The Serpo scenario, it has been noted, is not unlike the plot of Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Does that suggest that the forgers lazily copied the movie? Or that the movie is based on real events and Spielberg was in on the conspiracy?

The place of movies in the grand UFO conspiracy is a tricky area. Depending on which theory you subscribe to, Hollywood’s steady stream of sci-fi is either a deliberate exaggeration, designed to make the “truth” look unbelievable (the “you’ve been watching too many movies” defence), or it’s a way of psychologically preparing the populace for staggering alien secrets yet to be revealed. There are at least grounds for suspicion in the latter camp. Pilkington points to the CIA’s Psychological Strategy Board, founded after the second world war to promote US propaganda. Associated with the board was veteran film producer Darryl Zanuck. In 1951, Zanuck executive-produced seminal alien-visitation sci-fi The Day the Earth Stood Still, often cited as a government-sanctioned testing of the waters for alien contact. Like Zanuck, the film’s writer, Edmund North, was ex-military, while director Robert Wise apparently became a UFO believer on account of discussions he had with Washington figures during the making of the movie.

Steven Spielberg is a less likely government stooge, though he has been obsessed by aliens his entire career, from Close Encounters and ET up to War of the Worlds and the last Indiana Jones film (not forgetting his producer role in Falling Skies, Transformers and, er, Men in Black). If anyone’s paving the way for the big reveal, it’s Spielberg, but, after 30 years of paving, we’re still waiting.

Mirage Men finds an even more extreme example in the form of industry veteran Robert Emenegger, who claims that in 1971 he was approached by the Pentagon to make a film revealing “what the government really knows”. The Pentagon’s big lure was that they would let him incorporate top-secret footage of an alien craft landing at Holloman Air Force Base in the 1960s. Predictably, the footage never materialised but Emenegger – no less cryptic a character than Richard Doty – claims to have seen it, and still believes alien contact has been established. He went ahead and made his documentary, entitled UFOs: Past, Present And Future. Presented by Rod “Twilight Zone” Serling, it culminates in a rather anti-climactic “reconstruction” of the Holloman UFO landing.

In the cold light of the post-cold war, the evidence is starting to look pretty shaky for UFOs. (NOT TRUE AT ALL) Numbers at UFO conventions and clubs are dwindling. The UK’s Ministry of Defence closed its UFO desk in 2009, and, like many countries, has declassified its UFO documents. If there was any smoking gun, you’d imagine it would have been found in our current golden age of leaks and disclosures – but so far there’s only been more smoke. On a Guardian webchat in 2010, relating to Wikileaks’ release of the US embassy cables, Julian Assange asserted that “many weirdos email us about UFOs” but he’d come across nothing concrete. There were references to UFOs in the cables, he noted, but mostly to do with UFO cults rather than UFOs themselves – in the same way that GCHQ’s Art Of Deception slideshow references UFO cults.

If nothing else, the leaked GCHQ document tells us the Mirage Men are still out there, sowing deception and disinformation. (SADLY, THIS IS TRUE. This article is one attempt.) These days they’re more likely to be targeting suspect extremist religious groups, or hackers and online fraudsters. Meanwhile, recent claims to have “deciphered” hidden backwards messages about UFOs in Edward Snowden’s interview only go to show how desperate the alien conspiracy cause has become.

There’s something else ufologists are a textbook example of: cognitive dissonance – the mental distress of trying to hold two conflicting worldviews simultaneously. The term was coined in the 1950s by psychologist Leon Festinger, who illustrated it with the example of a UFO cult shattered by the unfulfilled prophecy of an alien visitation. Some tenacious devotees still refuse to accept Mirage Men’s findings, says Pilkington: “If beliefs are strongly held, nothing can sway them and anything that appears to undermine them will just be absorbed and repurposed. So if you’re really, really dedicated, this is just chaff to throw you off the trail.” Pilkington himself has been accused of working for MI5 or being a stooge controlled by the government, if not the aliens. “If I’m under intelligent control from elsewhere then I’m unaware of it, and I’m a victim, and it would be against my programming for me to be able to prove it,” he reasons.

As always in the conspiracy-theory hall of mirrors, it’s possible to flip the hypothesis on its head: what if the lies and hoaxes Mirage Men reveals are simply a smokescreen for the fact that the authorities really do know secrets about extraterrestrials? What better way to conceal them than by getting “found out” in their disinformation tactics? What better way of throwing sceptics off the scent than disseminating the confessions of an ex-man in black like Richard Doty, in documentaries, and articles in respectable new organisations – like this one. Perhaps we’re no closer to knowing if the truth really is out there, but we can be sure the lies are.

Rick Perry indicted - felony charge

Given the character of this man, this is no surprise:  http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/15/politics/rick-perry-indictment/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Resignation from the governorship and a well-deserved jail term may be (should be) in his future.
