Right winger Richard Armey has started a 3rd political party
EXCERPT: ...the G.O.P. has been taken over by the people it used to exploit. Real power in the party rests, instead, with the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin (who at this point is more a media figure than a conventional politician). Because these people aren’t interested in actually governing, they feed the base’s frenzy instead of trying to curb or channel it. So all the old restraints are gone. The point is that the takeover of the Republican Party by the irrational right is no laughing matter. Something unprecedented is happening here — and it’s very bad for America. (I'll second THAT!)
Just EXACTLY what I want to say to Obama!!!

8-yr.-old kills himself with an UZI! at a gun show
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The family of an 8-year-old boy who fatally shot himself at a gun show in western Massachusetts say the Uzi submachine gun jammed twice before he lost control of the weapon and fired into his head.
The family of Christopher Bizilj (bah-SEEL') of Ashford, Conn., says in a civil lawsuit filed Friday that a 15-year-old instructor who cleared the gun and handed it back to the victim failed to provide proper guidance.
The lawsuit names the owners of a gun club where the fair was held, promoters of the event and those who supplied the weapon and ammunition. None of those named in the lawsuit could be reached for comment after business hours Monday.
Bizilj shot himself at the Westfield Sportsman's Club in October 2008.
The boy's family claims the gun was defective and unreasonably dangerous, and they blame the failure to properly service it.

Kucinich voted No on Health Care Bill -- and he was RIGHT!
Kucinich's Brave Health Vote vs. Obama's Failed Promises
By Lee Stranahan
There were plenty of cowardly votes in the House last night but there was only one truly brave one. The unsung hero of the night was Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich. Despite enormous pressure to support H.R. 3962, Rep. Kucinich did the right thing and voted 'no'. Unlike the Blue Dog votes against the bill, he did it for all the right reasons.
In a principled and practical statement, Rep. Kucinich said what a growing number of progressives have realized as we've watched real health care reform be compromised again and again.
During the debate, when the interests of insurance companies would have been effectively challenged, that challenge was turned back. The "robust public option" which would have offered a modicum of competition to a monopolistic industry was whittled down from an initial potential enrollment of 129 million Americans to 6 million. An amendment which would have protected the rights of states to pursue single-payer health care was stripped from the bill at the request of the Administration. Looking ahead, we cringe at the prospect of even greater favors for insurance companies.
Personally, I supported President Obama in the primaries and the election but do not support him on this corporate giveaway built on broken campaign promises. I voted for the Barack Obama who opposed the individual mandate, who said the negotiations would be televised on C-SPAN and who campaigned against backroom deals with PHARMA.
Conservatives have expressed outrage for months about the way the health care bill was handled. Their anti-government anger is misplaced because it lets the insurance and drug companies who really helped drive this bill off the hook. But I understand their sense that this bill was passed despite the people.
Progressives should be every bit as upset that President Obama lied to us to get his historic health bill. The citizens of this country did not have a seat at the table. Proponents of the Single Payer didn't have a seat at the table. Under the guise of health care reform, we watched as the insurance industry got a bill passed that entrenches and enriches them.
Don't let anyone fool you that this bill is a good start. It's got a poison pill "Public Option" that is designed to fail. As the brilliant RJ Eskow wrote recently about the House bill's public option,
The plan will have low enrollment and little power to negotiate, causing the CBO to state as fact what I've long considered possible: That the public option could become a dumping ground where private plans jettison sicker people, while lacking the efficiencies of scale or negotiating power to get better rates or administer itself more economically. As a result, says the CBO, a public plan's premiums might be higher than private insurance. While the CBO's word isn't gospel, it's entirely possible that they're underestimating the cost of any "public option" we're likely to see this year. The likeliest political outcome, once the House and Senate bills are combined, is a non-robust "public option" with a state-by-state opt out. The CBO didn't consider the opt-out when it came up with its shocking (to some) estimate.
Even if it passes in its weak form, this Public Option will be the target of the GOP for years and they won't rest until it is dead. As the Public Option kicks into gear, they will find stories of 'rationing' and denial of care they can highlight, true or not. They will use the higher costs as proof of the Public Option's folly. They will grind away at the Public Option relentlessly but they will leave the Individual Mandate alone. If anything, once the Mandate is in place, the Republicans will make sure the insurance industry is 'free to compete' and unrestricted.
The corporate interests that spend millions to influence the media and both political parties want you to ignore Congressman Kucinich. Too many Democrats unwittingly help them. Don't be a patsy.
People like Dennis Kucinich, Ralph Nader and Michael Moore have been made pariahs by establishment Democrats. They have all been marginalized and made fun of...but check their records. They have been considered 'fringe' because they are telling us the truth about corporate abuses of power long before most of the rest of us catch up to the reality of what's happened.
If enough of us stand with Dennis Kucinich, maybe we'll actually get real health care reform. If we don't, maybe we don't deserve that reform.

Quantum physics -- Great explanations
I recall these words from that wonderful book, The Little Prince by Saint-Exupery: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.
Through their experiments, quantum physicists have discovered that, just as ancient spiritual teachings have said from time immemorial--and present-day wise men still tell us: You are not what you think you are. Everybody sees the world through the idea he has of himself. As you think yourself to be, so you think the world to be. If you imagine yourself as separate from the world, the world will appear separate from you, and you will experience desire and fear. ...By forgetting who you are and imagining yourself a mortal creature you create so much trouble for yourself that you have to wake up, like from a bad dream. To be a living being is not the ultimate state; there is something beyond, much more wonderful, which is neither being nor non-being, neither living nor not-living. It is a state of pure awareness, beyond the limitations of space and time. Once the illusion that the body-mind is oneself is abandoned, death loses its terror; it becomes a part of living. --from I AM THAT: Discourses with Nisargadatta Maharaj
FASCINATING, TRUE, and INEXPLICABLE TO THE MIND--EXCERPTS from Quantum Physics findings.
David Bohm's theory of the 'Implicate Order' in quantum physics was developed in the 1980s in order to explain the strange behavior of sub-atomic particles. The central underlying theme of Bohm's theory is that there is a unifying reality which underlies physical reality called the 'implicate order'. This 'order' unifies the totality of existence so that nothing is separate from anything else
"Physicists have now proven through Einstein's Theory of Relativity and the study of quantum physics that everything we see is an illusion.
Einstein, in looking at a macroscopic perspective of the Universe, said in his Theory of Relativity that there are more than three dimensions. Human beings can only visualize in three dimensions. We can only see three dimensions so we have assumed that that is all there is."
"Quantum physics has now proven that everything we see is an illusion, that the physical world is an illusion.
Everything is made up of interacting energy. Energy interacts on a subatomic level to form energy fields which physicists call subatomic particles. These subatomic energy fields interact to form atomic energy fields, atoms, which interact to form molecules. Everything in the physical world is made up of interacting atomic and molecular energy fields.
There is no such thing as separation in the physical world.
Energy is interacting to form a gigantic, dynamic pattern of rhythmically repeating energy interactions. In other words, a dance of energy. We are all part of a gigantic dance of energy.
This Universe is one gigantic pattern of dancing energy patterns.
Separation is an illusion. There is energy traveling at thousands of miles per second in your body right at this moment. There is energy interacting between, passing between, you and the chair you are sitting on, you and the air around you, you and any other beings in the room.
We are not separate.
Physicists have scientifically proven that separation in the physical world is an illusion. . . . We are all part of one gigantic, dynamic dance of energy.
Oneness is the Truth, the scientifically proven Truth, on this physical plane. . . . . The mystical Truth that we are all ONE in God has been known through the ages."
Even large objects of our ordinary experience do not have objectively existing properties unless and until they are observed. This is very startling. Or it should be very startling! As Niels Bohr once said,
Those who are not shocked when they first come across quantum theory cannot possibly have understood it.10The physical reason the quantum nature of most objects is not noticeable is because of a phenomenon called decoherence. When one wave passes through two slits, the resulting two waves are coherently related to each other, resulting in the interference pattern. When millions and millions of particles are gathered together, though, there are so many of these waves interfering in so many ways that they appear on the macroscopic scale to average out, or decohere. This is analogous to how the curvature of the earth appears to disappear in a small area of land. The decoherence effect is the reason we can normally neglect the quantum nature of macroscopic objects, and treat them as if they had objective existence. Similarly, we can normally neglect the curvature of the earth, and treat it as if it were really flat.
It is important to remember that this decoherence effect does not change the underlying quantum reality. The quantum coherence is really still there—it is just hidden in the microscopic details and not noticeable on the macroscopic scale. Thus, because of this decoherence effect, the macroscopic world usually appears in a manner that is consistent with the materialistic idea of objectively existing matter. Despite appearances, however, objects never depart from their true quantum nature, they never actually become the objectively existing objects that they appear to be, any more than the earth actually becomes flat even though it might appear that way. The apparent observation of an electron's actual position, in other words, results from our ignorance of its quantum coherence. When the quantum coherence is ignored, the electron appears as if it had an actual position. In reality, however, the electron does not have any actual position, just as the earth does not have any actual flatness when we ignore its curvature. We can only imagine that the position actually exists by ignoring the quantum coherence.
Thus, according to quantum physics, the attributes of physical objects are only imagined by us to have definite or actual existence. Or, as Sengtsan might say, they are empty of such existence. Just as the earth always is round, but appears with greater or lesser degrees of curvature, these objects always exist in a state of quantum coherence, appearing with greater or lesser degrees of decoherence. The electron in our double-slit experiment, for example, is very coherent when it remains unobserved. Thus, it does not have a definite position at one slit or the other. But when the electron's position is measured at one of the slits, its coherence becomes so difficult to detect that we can imagine the electron to have a definite position. Thus, in one sense, it appears as though we can precisely measure a position of the electron. Yet, in another sense, such a position never really can be shown to have definite existence.
This testimony of modern physics has striking resemblance to the testimony of the mystics. Consider, for example, the words of the Buddha:
I teach the non-existence of things because they carry no signs of inherent self-nature. It is true that in one sense they are seen and discriminated by the senses as individualized objects; but in another sense, because of the absence of any characteristic marks of self-nature, they are not seen but are only imagined. In one sense they are graspable, but in another sense, they are not graspable.11Remarkably, both physics and mysticism teach us that the appearance of an objectively existing world independent of observation is an illusion. Moreover, they both say that even the observed world does not exist objectively with anything like the definiteness that we imagine. And this illusion of definite objective existence, they tell us, arises from our ignorance of the true nature of phenomena. Far from being incompatible with the testimony of the mystics, therefore, modern science seems to make many of the same claims as the great mystical traditions about the nature of phenomena.
...While their claims converge, the type of experience used by physicists and mystics to validate claims are significantly different. Whereas physics is fundamentally extrospective, mysticism is radically introspective—to the point of transcending the subject-object distinction altogether. The mystic's non-dualistic Knowledge or Gnosis far transcends any knowledge derived from physics. Gnosis does not, and cannot, be demonstrated or proved using physics. Nevertheless, an understanding of the compatibility between modern physics and mysticism can provide the valuable service of helping to dispel the illusion of materialism, and reveal the Gnosis that is already our true nature. For, just as we falsely imagine the electron to have an actual position by ignoring its true nature, so we falsely imagine that we have actual ignorance by ignoring our true nature. So, by recognizing that our own ignorance is itself falsely imagined to be real, our true nature is clearly revealed.
This is what happens when corporations are deregulated
Look at what kinds of vaccines are in the making now -- Big Pharma wants to give you a vaccine to stop you from smoking! They are now making Gardasil for teen-age boys (now that they've talked teen girls into getting vaccinated for "protection" from genital warts, etc., even though the vaccination has proved deadly for some and dangerous for many see: www.webmd.com/sexual.../fda-panel-oks-gardasil-for-boys) and they're also working on a vaccine to keep you from becoming obese. (Think of the $$$ that will bring in!!! Get vaccinated and eat all the fast food you want!)
Read all about this madness here: (and while you're at it, you might want to order the book When Corporations Rule the World by David C. Korten and see how we got to this point....

Must-Read column and book if you are disappointed in Obama!
Arianna hits the nail on the head -- as has Plouffe in his new book. Millions of us are wondering what has happened to Obama and his Audacity???!!!! And his promises???!!!! WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT HE HAS BEEN SO FAR!!!
I hope Obama reads Plouffe's book, but, since entering the White House, he appears to have been captured and imprisoned by the powers that really run things -- the corporations. Another good book to read is David C. Korten's When Corporations Rule the World. I think you will recognize our world in that book. What a sad ending for America...brought down by greed.

Boo! Hiss! Dems and Repugs are all alike! We need a 3rd party
I'm in complete agreement with the author of the follow piece -- it's time to get rid of the whole darn bunch in Washington (all except Dennis Kucinich, a true man of principle and champion of the people) -- and start over!

EXCERPT: The Republicans, as stated previously, are beyond redemption. The Democrats are not far behind. From those who lead the local Democratic organizations, right up through to the Congress, they are a corrupt and fraudulent party. They "feel your pain" and then vote along with the rich who control them. Plain and simple.

Fixed point of view quote
-- Brooks Atkinson, 1894-1984, American theater critic.
J.K. Rowlings' commencement address at Harvard...BEAUTIFUL!
What an intelligent, compassionate woman is this author of the Harry Potter books! This speech is worth keeping -- and sharing with everyone. It's an amazing contrast to the filled-with-hate "Christian" woman in the video I sent out yesterday -- in which she was instilling great FEAR! in far right wing fundamentalist children (poor things) who were being forced to listen to her rantings. Some of her ravings were against Rowlings' Harry Potter books, which she inferred were the works of the devil--and said, in essence, that Harry Potter should be killed (to which a child in her brainwashed audience called out "Amen!"). The difference in intelligence and life viewpoint between these women is phenomenal! They really live on different planets in different universes. I know which one of them I would rather share a planet and universe with.... you can make your own choice.
The woman in yesterday's video (if you missed it, you can see it at: http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/729.html )
also extolled the virtues of George W. Bush to those children--she had a huge cutout figure of Bush and had the kids revere it along with her, telling them how spiritual he is. See this at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-CgzVrY5KI&feature=rec-LGOUT-exp_fresh+div-HM
Isn't it funny how right wingers get so angry if kids in a grade school include in one of their presentations an innocent song about Obama -- and oh boy, have they ever tried to make a HUGE thing about that! -- yet they see nothing wrong with right wing kids being indoctrinated into actual worship of Bush? Just one of the many dichotomies in our world today. In my opinion, authoritarian fundamentalist religions/ideologies of all kinds are the most dangerous and ignorant plagues on our planet today. If I could wave a magic wand, I would get rid of every one of them. And--to my right-wing friends who have trouble seeing straight, No, I would not include Democratic principles among them. The core principles of the Democrat Party match up perfectly with J.K. Rowlings' speech. If only the Democrats would follow those core principles without catering to Congressional members who are being paid by right-wing lobbyists to destroy them!!!

This woman has her head on backwards
She represents all that is bad about the far right wing of the Republican party -- and of all authoritarian religions -- they indoctrinate and terrorize their members through FEAR, FEAR, FEAR!!!! In this video you can see the next generation being indoctrinated to be far right-wingers. And this woman is not even aware that she is the other side of the coin of the fanatical Muslims; they are exactly the same. This is how terrorists of all kinds are made.
FYI, I think the Harry Potter books are great!

Talk to your genes -- a good article
By Dr. Deepak Chopra
The best thing that could come out of the debate on health care reform won't be the passage of a bill in Congress. It will be a shift in personal attitudes. Health care happens one person at a time. So let me speak personally to you. If you want the best possible health for yourself, the most important thing you can do today is talk to your genes.
I doubt that any doctor has ever made that recommendation. All of us, including medical students, were led to believe that genes are fixed. The ones we are born with don't change; new ones cannot be added. Those facts remain the same, but there's a huge story being overlooked. Genes have no effect unless they are switched on, and when you switch on beneficial genes, every cell in your body benefits.
Recent research by Dr. Dean Ornish and his colleagues has shown that adopting positive measures including exercise, meditation, and diet creates beneficial changes in five hundred genes.
This single finding could revolutionize your health, because what it means is that every bite of food you eat, every step on the treadmill, every moment of deep relaxation is talking to your genes. And your genes talk back by sending chemical signals to every cell indicating how your life is going.
Genes are alert, and when you change anything in your life, they respond.
Nothing is left out. Your cells are getting chemical signals right now that tell them if you are in a good or bad mood. They know if you ate trans fats at lunch, if you are in love, or if you inhale polluted air.
Now is the time to take advantage of this breakthrough by talking to your genes in a new way. Forty years ago it was an uphill battle to convince Americans that smoking was dangerous, but eventually attitudes shifted and a major health risk was dramatically diminished. At present the big risks are just as controllable. They include obesity, sedentary living, and stress.
Start to talk to your genes about these issues. This isn't just another call to get you to exercise, meditate, and diet. Those are all good things, and yet most people ignore them. Why? Because despite their best intentions, people are conditioned by old habits. Your body can't break those habits on its own, but it can become your ally.
To win your body over, take a walk when it's beautiful outside, devote five minutes to meditation or stress management, nourish yourself with healthy food, and above all, be aware that the power to change rests with you. Small beginnings can lead to major results once you know that each step is like a conversation with your body. Your genes are listening. Tell them something good as often as you can.
Deepak Chopra is the author of over 50 books on health, success, relationships and spirituality, including his current bestseller, "Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul," available now at http://www.deepakchopra.com.
New wrinkle in the Kennedy assassination
If you have an interest (as I do) in getting to the truth about the JFK assassination, a new book you might want to read is: JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters by James Douglass. It gives details that make sense -- This reviewer tells it right: If you want a cogent, serious read about the assassination, and a brave, logical exploration of the true motivation behind the killing, read Douglass's book. The establishment will try to smear him as a "peace activist" (God knows there's nothing worse than someone who works for peace), but he's got it right. Unlike many of the so-called "tell all" books about the assassination on the market today, Douglass points fingers at the people who GENUINELY had means, motive and opportunity to kill Kennedy. The author has done some thorough investigation and delivers interviews with people who were actually involved--including a CIA agent who managed to disengage himself from the plot by committing a victimless crime (shooting off a gun in a bank) that was sure to get him in jail and away from the plotters. Douglass sees Kennedy's "peace speech" of June 10,1963, as the watershed moment in the rift between Kennedy and the military-industrial-intelligence complex. No more wars, no more war profiteering, you say? No more president, they say.
No wonder Obama is walking the razor's edge since entering the White House!

Good Maureen Dowd column re. Catholic nuns
I am no longer a Catholic and haven't been for many years, but if I still were and I took a good look at Pope Benedict, that would definitely be the end of my affiliation with this church that is still in the Dark Ages, as far as women's rights are concerned. No wonder its numbers are dwindling -- and, although the priesthood still collects a number of boys here and there, NO ONE wants to become a nun. A friend of mine who grew up in Germany once told me her mother always referred to the Catholic hierarchy as "that black brood." I have come to think of them that way myself. Considering the history of the church, in which untold numbers of innocent people have been tortured and murdered in the name of Christ -- and the hidden mistresses and children of Popes and priests, plus the physical and sexual abuse of children and women within the church up to the present day, I often wonder why anyone stays there. With the Vatican's riches, it's not as if they need the money. But you'd never know that from all the appeals I still get from nuns and priests to help the poor with whom they continue to work. Why doesn't the Vatican distribute some of the vast amounts of their jewels and cash to those missionaries? The way I used to view the church and the way I see it now are totally different. My eyes have been opened.
Just my own opinion.
