Right Wing will do away with National Public Radio

NPR: THE SAGA CONTINUES
By Bill Moyers and Michael Winship
EXCERPT: Once upon a time, in the early glory days of radio, corporate media took on the challenge of providing Americans with the kind of information critical to citizenship. No longer. Conglomerates long ago bought up the country’s commercial radio stations, closed down the news departments, and auctioned off the airtime to partisan polemicists or pre-packaged content devoid of journalism. Serious news on radio -- "the news we need to keep our freedoms," as the historian and journalist Richard Reeves once put it – has become the province of NPR (Full disclosure: We two have spent most of the last forty years toiling in the vineyards of public broadcasting, although never for NPR.)
In just the last few weeks, NPR has provided unique coverage of the job crisis in the United States, upheavals in the Middle East, and anxiety over the safety of nuclear power in the wake of the Japanese earthquake – as a matter of fact, many of the issues the House of Representatives should have been debating instead of posturing and pandering to its rightward political base.
Hear Steve Benen of Washington Monthly on the House Judiciary Committee’s vote the other day reaffirming “In God We Trust” as our national motto: "For months the new House Republican majority has wasted time on health care bills they know they can't pass, abortion bills they know they can't pass, climate bills they know they can't pass, and budget bills they know they can't pass. They've invested considerable time and energy on defending the Defense of Marriage Act, recklessly accusing Muslim Americans of disloyalty, going after NPR, and pushing culture-war bills related to vouchers, English as the 'official' language, and now 'In God We Trust.'"
And yes, on Thursday, following a number of missteps by NPR executives, including what has now been indisputably exposed as a disingenuous and dishonestly-edited video by a disreputable right-wing smear artist of the network’s chief fundraiser expressing some personal opinions, the House passed a bill cutting off government funding for NPR – all of this part of the "vanity project," as Benen calls it, that House Republicans have been running in order to feed red meat to Fox News and the partisan talk radio hosts who have turned the public airwaves -- remember, the airwaves above our fair and bountiful land belong to you, Mr. and Mrs. and Ms. America – into a right-wing romper room.

Love that truth teller Bill Maher!
See video at: http://slothropia.com/?p=1500
Bill Maher took a shot at Republicans in his New Rules segment by showing us that they have absolutely no interest in governing and instead are just trying to whip their base up into a frenzy fear mongering over the latest faux outrage of the day. Republicans, said Maher, focus on "useless distractions," making mountains out of molehills, while ignoring the real issues facing the country: "Climate change, loose nukes, debt, infrastructure, the wealth gap, our addiction to oil from weird, distant places run by monsters that want us dead, like Alaska."
MAHER: New Rule – Fantasies are for sex, not public policy. When you go down the list of useless distractions that make up the Republican Party agenda; public unions and Sharia law, anchor babies and a mosque at ground zero, ACORN and National Public Radio, the war on Christmas, the New Black Panthers, Planned Parenthood, Michelle Obama’s war on desserts…
…you realize that one reason nothing gets done in America is that one of the political parties puts so much more into fantasy problems. Governing this country with Republicans is like rooming with a meth addict.
You want to address real life problems like when the rent is due and they’re saying “How can you even think of that stuff when there’s police scanner voices coming out of the air conditioning unit?”
Among Maher's slams:
--On ACORN: "Republicans are obsessed with people cooking up wild, nonexistent schemes to vote, ignoring one important truth: this is America. No one wants to vote."
--The lunacy of Oklahoma banning Sharia when the Muslim population there is "rapidly approaching zero."
--The New Black Panthers, in which he said about Republicans, the truth is, "every black person scares you." Then, in a local joke for Californians, he put up a video slide of the two black guys standing outside the polling station in Philadelphia, he pointed to the audience and said, a guy from Orange County saw the photo and look, he's leaving the studio. (Orange Country is heavily white, heavily Republican.)On Thursday, the day the House would vote on NPR funding, Ron Paul chastised his Republican colleagues for pretty much doing the same thing by obsessing over NPR when the cost of the war in Afghanistan is a far more important issue to address.

Miso, seaweed, etc. also good for radiation detox
French green clay is also good for detoxification. See: http://www.frenchclayforall.com/info.html
You can get French Green Clay in the bulk herbs area of most health food stores. Here is some info. regarding its ability to detoxify:
The degree of the adsorbing power of this clay is another key to its wonderful healing abilities.
Let's keep things simple enough to understand...
Absorption of the impurities in the tissues, neutralizing and draining these impurities.. extra cellular level.
Adsorption means the pulling out of the impurities that are in a state of suspension in the body liquid (blood, lymph, bile) and then draining and eliminating them... Intra cellular level.
Clay considerably reduces the toxicity of harmful substances.
A famous incident that happened in France in which many dogs have been poisoned, but survived, thanks to the clay which had been put in their drinking water.
According to Dr Camberg ( a European doctor), clay takes care of any poisoning, even such as arsenic! One teaspoon of clay mixed in a glass of water every hour for 6 hours to be out of trouble.
As with all natural remedies, clay does not act specifically on one or several bacteria varieties; rather it prevents their proliferation by reinforcing the defenses of the organism.
Contributing to the elimination of acids, clay favors a good pH of the blood.
This wonderful adsorbing power has a magnet effect.
For healing and therapeutical purposes, this clay may be used externally and orally.
Eating clay can be a wonder-working cure!
Applied in poultices and compresses, clay provides numerous benefits.
It can heal sores and ulcers and aid in the rebuilding of healthy tissues and cells, and even of fractured bones and vertebrae.
Everything unhealthy and emiting negative radiations is irresistibly attracted to clay ( a brilliant positive pole) and becomes subject to immediate elimination.
Wherever there is a deficiency, clay seems to supply the needed substance regardless of whether or not the clay itself is rich in that substance.

Wikileaks is our only way of getting truth in news these days
Wikileaks: Japan Was Warned About Fukushima
from Keith Olbermann FOK NEWS CHANNELWe are now at this stage in the life of our country and our world: WikiLeaks revealed that the Japanese Government was warned three years ago that earthquake preparedness at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant was dangerously insufficient.
Naturally, the leaders of the world are – or wish to start – prosecuting WikiLeaks, and not the Japanese Government.
The IAEA was saying in 2008 that Japan’s nuclear safety guidelines were dangerously out of date. A government whistleblower in that country was quoted in a cable to Washington the same year that a Japanese ministry was “covering up nuclear accidents, and obscuring the true costs and problems associated with the nuclear industry.”
And our government, in our name, continues both to seek ways to prosecute WikiLeaks, and to stick by the President’s ludicrous 2009 suggestion that we accelerate our national Nuclear Power program. The uncensored real oversight, and the truth about Japan’s irresponsibility, are both buried because the illusion of Japan as a successful safe nuclear nation is necessary to President Obama’s pitch, and President Obama’s pitch is necessary to some labyrinthine political calculation, and to the bottom lines of sundry international corporations.
We could say that the worsening news from Japan is coming by drips, except that the latest information from our own Nuclear Regulatory Commission suggests that there’s nothing to drip; that the water in the cooling system for Dai-Ichi Reactor 4 has evaporated and NHK broadcasts, late night our time, were filled with images of helicopters trying to douse the facility with seawater, as if it were a forest fire.
Most ominously are reports that read like the worst days of the dark, sick humor of the Bush Administration, when Americans were told to stock up on duct tape and plastic sheeting to protect their homes from radiation (and memorably one poor soul in Connecticut put it up on the wrong side of his windows). Why, truly, do you think people around Fukushima are being told to stay in their homes and offices? Because going outside somehow significantly reduces the chances they will be exposed to radiation? Because they’re safer indoors in the event the worst-case scenario develops and the thing spews out a kind of nuclear holocaust? Or is it because it’ll be easier to keep track of the victims of a best-case scenario if they stay where they are and don’t try to flee the area, and thus no effort will be required to see where they go and if they have taken radiation with them?
And the saddest story of them all: Gregory Jaczko, the head of our NRA stating this, bluntly, matter-of-factly, and even blandly:
We believe that around the reactor site there are high levels of radiation. It would be very difficult for emergency workers to get near the reactors. The doses they could experience would potentially be lethal doses in a very short period of time. This is a situation where people may be called in to sacrifice their lives. It’s very difficult for me to contemplate that, but it may have reached that point.
As you think of Japan, and you think of the aging nuclear plants in this country, and their nearness to our major metropolitan areas, remember that there are 180 human beings – our brothers and sisters – working around this Doomsday Machine that their government was warned about at least three years ago, about which it did nothing!
180 men and women, the same as any Americans, and very possibly the forerunners of any Americans, who are facing this reality: “This is a situation where people may be called in to sacrifice their lives.”

Don't you dare tell truth to the American People
PUNISHING THE TRUTH TELLERS
By Robert Parry
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2011/031511.html
EXCERPT: If only the Democrats would be half as aggressive in enforcing laws that were violated by the Bush administration as they’ve been in pursuing and punishing people who tell the truth. It appears the most serious offense you can commit in Washington these days is telling the truth. You get a pass on torture, aggressive war, killing civilians, lying, destroying evidence and such, but don’t dare give honest information to the American people.
The penalties can range from possible life imprisonment for Pvt. Bradley Manning, who allegedly disclosed classified information to the public via WikiLeaks, to getting fired, like what happened to State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley for calling the Pentagon’s harsh and humiliating treatment of Manning “counterproductive and stupid.”
Yet, no one suggests that what Manning allegedly released wasn’t true; nor could you dispute Crowley’s assessment that the forced nudity and the maximum security treatment of Manning hurt the U.S. image, especially since these acts recall George W. Bush’s mistreatment of “war on terror” detainees.
But it seems President Barack Obama is especially eager to go the extra mile to show the Establishment that he can be trusted with the secrets, that his administration can hide the truth as assiduously as the last one, if not more so.
There’s also the recent case of NPR fundraiser Ron Schiller who was secretly videotaped noting that the Tea Party included some “racist” individuals. For making that startling comment, Schiller was not only canned by NPR but was stripped of a prospective job at the Aspen Institute.
Yet, Schiller may have been thinking about Tea Party activists who insist that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and was raised with Mau Mau influences inherited from his father, causing the President to view the English as, god forbid, “imperialists.”
Oddly, some of these Tea Partiers, who are known for dressing up in American revolutionary garb, are now up arms over someone looking at English history and detecting imperialism. To do so may qualify you to be portrayed in Tea Party posters like Obama was, dressed as an African bushman.
But just as you must not see evidence of imperialism in the British Empire, you must not see racism in how the Tea Party reacts to the first African-American president. To do so in Washington makes you unemployable.

A good article re. protection from nuclear fallout
Speaking up re. nuclear power
Republicans ought to be embracing Obama as one of their own, because he champions their causes and is eager to do their bidding. But he's half black, which makes him anathema to most Republicans, so that will never happen. I am sorry to say I have no faith at all left in him. Either he is a bought puppet, like Clinton, of those who really rule us (my strong suspicion) or he has been threatened with a Kennedy solution by those who could pull this off very easily. Below is one of his 'wise' comments from the past. I wonder if he thinks the same way now. He probably does, because his administration just OK'd more off-shore drilling for oil in Alaska, with seemingly no remembrance at all of the Gulf Oil disaster (see: http://www.theolympian.com/2010/12/02/1573409/obama-administration-oks-review.html )
http://readersupportednews.org/off-site-opinion-section/179-179/5288-thank-you-mr-science
From Keith Olbermann:
EXCERPT: [Here's an] unfortunate quote from the President from October, 2009, that was not disavowed Monday by the new Press Secretary:
“There’s no reason why, technologically, we can’t employ nuclear energy in a safe and effective way. Japan does it and France does it, and it doesn’t have greenhouse gas emissions, so it would be stupid for us not to do that in a much more effective way.”
Stupid. Maybe President Obama would like to circle that word and rethink its meaning. It would be stupid to keep pushing nuclear power at the exact hour that the “safe and effective way” in Japan is proving to be "that slight increase in radiation in Tokyo is nothing to worry about. But if you’re within 20 miles of the plant please stay indoors because we don’t know if the thing is going to meltdown, blow up, shoot nuclear rods into the sky or into the ground water, or what. Have a nice day.”

Michele Bachmann - the perfect candidate for right wingers
MICHELE BACHMANN MANGLES REVOLUTIONARY HISTORY
(Huffington Post)
New Hampshire is a popular place this week with Minnesota politicians who might have their eye on the White House.
Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty left the state after a two-day visit ending Friday, just as U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann was arriving for her weekend visit.
Bachmann, popular with conservatives and tea party activists, attended a private fundraiser Friday night and was meeting with members of the Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire on Saturday before headlining a state GOP fundraiser in Nashua later in the day.
Speaking at an event held by the Republican Liberty Caucus on Saturday, Bachmann invoked the founding fathers and offered a historical account in lauding the early presidential primary state.
"What I love about New Hampshire and what we have in common is our extreme love for liberty," she said, according to Politico. "You're the state where the shot was heard around the world in Lexington and Concord. And you put a marker in the ground and paid with the blood of your ancestors the very first price that had to be paid to make this the most magnificent nation that has ever arisen in the annals of man in 5,000 years of recorded history."
Scott Conroy at Real Clear Politics notes, however, an accuracy glitch in what the Tea Party darling had to say:
In fact, the 1775 Battles of Lexington and Concord that marked the first military engagements of the American Revolution took place in Massachusetts. But Bachmann did not correct her error when she referenced the battles again later in her speech.
Some 30 miles to the north and with tea bag in hand, Bachmann was greeted with applause when she asked the crowd, "How about a United States president that gets what the American people want in 2012?" and later proclaimed, "Are you in for 2012? I'm in!"
She later clarified that she is committed to denying President Barack Obama a second term, not necessarily running herself.
It remains to be seen whether Bachmann will ultimately launch a 2012 presidential campaign. One of Bachmann's closest advisers, however, told ABC News on Friday, "I'd be surprised if she didn't run."
Bachmann chief-of-staff Andy Parrish told CNN on Friday that the conservative congresswoman is giving serious thought and consideration to mounting a campaign for the White House. "If the congresswoman decides to do run, she is going to do it her way, and her way has never been the establishment way," he told the network.
Bachmann recently has visited two other early nominating states. She's expected to announce whether she's running by early summer.

EGADS! The 7 Germiest Public Places
The 7 Germiest Public Places
Excerpt from The List Maker’s Get-Healthy Guide, By the Editors of Prevention
An average adult can touch as many as 30 objects within a minute, including germ-harboring, high-traffic surfaces such as light switches, doorknobs, phone receivers, and remote controls. At home, you do all that you can to keep the germs at bay. But what happens when you step out the door to go to dinner, do some grocery shopping, or visit the doctor’s office? Know where germs are most likely to lurk, as you’ll find out here.
1. Restaurant menus
Have you ever seen anyone wash off a menu? Probably not. A recent study in the Journal of Medical Virology reported that cold and flu viruses can survive for 18 hours on hard surfaces. If it’s a popular restaurant, hundreds of people could be handling the menus–and passing their germs on to you. Never let a menu touch your plate or silverware, and wash your hands after you place your order. Or use antibacterial wipes.
According to a 2007 study in the Journal of Environmental Health, nearly 70% of the lemon wedges perched on the rims of restaurant glasses contain disease-causing microbes. When the researchers ordered drinks at 21 different restaurants, they found 25 different microorganisms lingering on the 76 lemons that they secured, including E. coli and other fecal bacteria. Tell your server that you’d prefer your beverage sans fruit. Why risk it?
3. Condiment dispensersIt’s the rare eatery that regularly bleaches its condiment containers. And the reality is that many people don’t wash their hands before eating, says Kelly Reynolds, PhD. So while you may be diligent, the guy who poured the ketchup before you may not have been, which means his germs are now on your fries. Squirt hand sanitizer on the outside of the condiment bottle or use a disinfectant wipe before you grab it. Holding the bottle with a napkin won’t help; napkins are porous, so microorganisms can pass right through, Reynolds says.
4. Restroom door handles
Don’t think you can escape the restroom without touching the door handle? Palm a spare paper towel after you wash up and use it to grasp the handle. Yes, other patrons may think you’re a germphobe–but you’ll never see them again, and you’re the one who won’t get sick.
5. Soap dispensersAbout 25% of public restroom dispensers are contaminated with fecal bacteria. Soap that harbors bacteria may seem ironic, but that’s exactly what a recent study found. “Most of these containers are never cleaned, so bacteria grow as the soap scum builds up,” says Charles Gerba, PhD. “And the bottoms are touched by dirty hands, so there’s a continuous culture feeding millions of bacteria.” Be sure to scrub hands thoroughly with plenty of hot water for 15 to 20 seconds–and if you happen to have an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, use that, too.
6. Grocery cartsThe handles of almost two-thirds of the shopping carts tested in a 2007 study at the University of Arizona were contaminated with fecal bacteria. In fact, the bacterial counts of the carts exceeded those of the average public restroom. Swab the handle with a disinfectant wipe before grabbing hold (stores are starting to provide them, so look around for a dispenser). And while you’re wheeling around the supermarket, skip the free food samples, which are nothing more than communal hand-to-germ-to-mouth zones.
7. Airplane bathroomsWhen Gerba tested for microbes in the bathrooms of commercial jets, he found surfaces from faucets to doorknobs to be contaminated with E. coli. It’s not surprising, then, that you’re 100 times more likely to catch a cold when you’re airborne, according to a recent study in the Journal of Environmental Health Research. To protect yourself, try taking green tea supplements. In a 2007 study from the University of Florida, people who took a 450-milligram green tea supplement twice a day for 3 months had one-third fewer days of cold symptoms. The supplement brand used in the study was Immune Guard ($30 for 60 pills; immune-guard.us).
8. Doctor’s officeA doctor’s office is not the place to be if you’re trying to avoid germs. These tips can help limit your exposure:
1. Take your own books and magazines (and kid’s toys, if you have your children or grandchildren with you).
2. Also pack your own tissues and hand sanitizers, which should be at least 60% alcohol content.
3. In the waiting room, leave at least two chairs between you and the other patients to reduce your chances of picking up their bugs. Germ droplets from coughing and sneezing can travel about 3 feet before falling to the floor.

New study on fluoride says it doesn't protect teeth from cavities
From Natural News:
Does topical fluoride really protect tooth enamel? Study suggests NO
by Ethan A. Huff, staff writer(NaturalNews) A popular mantra in American dentistry claims that topical fluoride treatments help to protect teeth from cavities by forming a protective shield on the enamel of teeth. However, a new study published in the American Chemical Society (ACS) journal Langmuir has found that the "protective layer" created by fluoride is actually 100 times thinner than previously believed, which may render it practically useless as a cavity-preventing intervention.
Frank Muller, PhD, and his colleagues from Saarland University in Germany discovered that the fluorapatite layer formed by fluoride on teeth is only six nanometers thick. To put this into perspective, the width of an average human hair is roughly 10,000 layers thick. So everyday activities like chewing food, say scientists, are enough to disintegrate this thin fluoride layer in a matter of seconds.
The finding, which researchers say still needs to be validated by follow-up studies, challenges decades of thought concerning the supposed protective benefits of fluoride on teeth. It also adds to the growing body of evidence showing that fluoride is both useless as a teeth protector and a detriment to public health.
Numerous recent studies have challenged the safety of fluoride, including a study published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives which found that toxic fluorides contribute to decreased cognitive function in children. A similar study out of China found that fluoride lowers IQ levels of children (http://www.naturalnews.com/030819_f...).
Ironically, no legitimate study has ever found that fluoridated water actually contributes to overall improved dental health. The idea is nothing more than a modern medical myth backed by pseudoscience. Many unfluoridated areas, including most European nations, for instance, have the same or even lower cavity rates than fluoridated areas.
To learn the truth about fluoride and where the chemicals added to municipal water supplies across the US actually come from, check out the new Fluoride Deception video on NaturalNews.TV:

Insanity -- in the name of "Sport"
Young Kids Riding Bulls -- and Dying (with their parents' approval) I call it insanity. What would you call it?
Want to know what Jefferson REALLY thought about government?
READING THE TEA LEAVES OF HISTORY
By Stephen Pizzo
Tea Party "patriots" -- they're a lot like Christian born-agains who've decided that Jesus, and everything He is alleged to have said, represent the Way -- the ONLY way.
Tea Partiers are our 1776-Born Agains and, like those holier than everyone Christian Born Agains, these self-minted neo-patriots claim nothing less than rabid adherence to what our original founders set forth 235 years ago.
Never mind that 99.999% of today's Tea Party activists have not read much of the original thoughts and writings of America's founders. And those who may have tried discover it all written in an ancient formal english syntax, long buried (and never deeper than in todays world of texting shorthand, BTW.)
So I doubt they understood much of what they read, if anything at all. But most of them, I suspect, have not even tried. After all, American's reading comprehension has been on a steady decline since the inception of television, and that's for comprehending modern english text. Put old-world formal english in front of them and I suspect they find it more unsettling than informative. After all, what kind of guys use such flowery language.. if you get my drift.
Having said that the Tea Party folk are right about our founders; they were brilliant, forward thinking, revolutionaries. Unfortunately for our born-again revolutionaries, our founders didn't say, write or believe the kind of things the Tea Party "patriots" now claim America has abandoned.
Nevertheless, they've succeeded in so polluting our stream of history that, from time to time, I have dig out my old copy of Presidential Papers and Speeches just to clear away the growing clutter of misconceptions and downright untruths they've toss into the mix.
Yesterday I was reading the text of Thomas Jefferson's inaugural address. Here's a short excerpt. Read it and then ask yourself, does this really sound like the foaming-at-the-mouth "government is bad," bunch claiming to carry Jefferson's banner today?
* * *
Thomas Jefferson: (emphasis mine)
"During the contest of opinion through which we have passed the animation of discussions and of exertions has sometimes worn an aspect which might impose on strangers unused to think freely and to speak and to write what they think; but this being now decided by the voice of the nation, announced according to the rules of the Constitution, all will, of course, arrange themselves under the will of the law, and unite in common efforts for the common good.
All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression.
Let us, then, fellow-citizens, unite with one heart and one mind. Let us restore to social intercourse that harmony and affection without which liberty and even life itself are but dreary things. And let us reflect that, having banished from our land that religious intolerance under which mankind so long bled and suffered, we have yet gained little if we countenance a political intolerance as despotic, as wicked, and capable of as bitter and bloody persecutions.
During the throes and convulsions of the ancient world, during the agonizing spasms of infuriated man, seeking through blood and slaughter his long-lost liberty, it was not wonderful that the agitation of the billows should reach even this distant and peaceful shore; that this should be more felt and feared by some and less by others, and should divide opinions as to measures of safety.
But every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle. We have called by different names brethren of the same principle. We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists. If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it.
I know, indeed, that some honest men fear that a republican government can not be strong, that this Government is not strong enough; but would the honest patriot, in the full tide of successful experiment, abandon a government which has so far kept us free and firm on the theoretic and visionary fear that this Government, the world's best hope, may by possibility want energy to preserve itself?
I trust not. I believe this, on the contrary, the strongest Government on earth. I believe it the only one where every man, at the call of the law, would fly to the standard of the law, and would meet invasions of the public order as his own personal concern.
Sometimes it is said that man cannot be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then, be trusted with the government of others? Or have we found angels in the forms of kings to govern him? Let history answer this question. "Two Suns in China Sky Defy Explanation

How to pass a bill through the state senate, Ohio GOP style
If you're the leader of the Republican state senate in Ohio, and you want to pass a bill taking away public workers' rights to collective bargaining, and the two committees needed to pass it through so it can get to the floor for a vote, don't have the necessary majority in your favor--what do you do? Why, you yank off one opposing member from each committee and replace them with representatives who will vote the way you want them to. It's the good old Republican way. CHEAT and WIN. The public is so used to it now, and with their noses kept to the grindstone most of them aren't even aware of what is going on politically -- thus, you can get away with anything! Right out in the public eye!
This is what we have come to--where liars and cheats do their dirty business right out in the open, and don't even bother to hide it behind closed doors. They count on the public being so dumbed down, they won't even notice -- and that is how it works out, unfortunately. Even the representatives who were replaced, though they don't like it, won't say anything against it (party loyalty or threats, or both, no doubt), and the bill passes through your legislature. If the Democrats in Ohio allow this, without screaming out against it, they get what they deserve: a government ruled by liars, cheaters, and slimeballs. (So, what else is new?!!!)
How anyone can be a Republican and hold their head up high while defending the blackguard leaders of their party, is a mystery to me. Ohio voters need to take a long look at what they have voted in to represent them and finally take notice that they have voted against their own interests. These dirty dealers are doing them in! I am disheartened and sorry to say that with stuff like this going on all over our country, we have slid too far down the slippery slope of disaster to ever make our way back up again. Greed and power lust have taken their toll on the once great promise of our democratic republic. The dreams of Washington and Jefferson are dead -- lying in the muck and mire of scheming, damn-the-people politics. The power at the top is too great for us to bring it down -- unless we all unite and scream ENOUGH! WE AREN'T GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE! And, with public ignorance and apathy so predominant in our society today, that isn't likely to happen anytime soon.

Always ask for a neck guard when getting dental X-rays and mammograms
At the dentist- ask for a neck guard! At a mammogram ask for a neck guard and an apron guard!
This is interesting information most of us are not aware of...
On his September 28, 2010 show, Dr. Oz featured information on the fastest growing cancer in women, thyroid cancer. It was a very interesting program and he mentioned that the increase could possibly be related to the use of dental x-rays and mammograms. He demonstrated that on the apron the dentist puts on you for your dental x-rays there is a little flap that can be lifted up and wrapped around your neck. Many dentists don't bother to use it. Also, there is something called a "thyroid guard" for use during mammograms. By coincidence, a woman had her yearly mammo. She felt a little silly, but she asked about the guard and sure enough, the technician had one in a drawer. She asked why it wasn't routinely used.
Answer: "I don't know, they have to ask."
Well, if she hadn't seen the show, how would she have known to ask?
Please forward this to your family and friends.

Mickey Rooney speaks out on elder abuse -- his own
The video that accompanies this article shows Mickey Rooney, now age 90!, testifying to the senate committee about the abuse he was subjected to by his step children. It is obvious Rooney has all his faculties and it is very sad to hear the story of how his step children abused him for many years. I am sure this is not an unusual story. It is so easy in our society--where the elderly are not respected for the wisdom of their years--to kick them to the curb. They don't have the physical strength to defend themselves as they once would have and, as Rooney describes, sometimes it can come about in an insidious gradual way, where slowly but surely a person's independence is taken away from them by greedy, selfish relatives who have no empathy for the plight of the senior. This is an article worth reading -- and a video worth seeing. As a much-loved actor over many decades, and as one who gave us many moments of laughter and entertainment, Rooney deserved better. If the elderly can't be protected and cared for by their own families, who can they trust? To whom can they tell their stories when they are abused? This is an important issue to be brought before our government representatives, if only to make the knowledge of such abuse more public and widespread.
Contrary to popular belief, Canola oil is NOT good for you
I have known this for years, from having read warnings about it in other alternative health sites. There is much ignorance about this product, since it has been marketed as the "best" oil. It is not! But just try to find products without canola oil. Almost impossible these days. For home cooking, I use coconut oil and olive oil. Read the following article to discover the truth about canola oil. We have been fooled by marketing ploys, folks. (I'm sure you'll agree it's not the first time...)
Side effects result from the consumption of canola products
by Shona BotesNatural News
(NaturalNews) Canola oil and canola-based products have been at the center of controversy for quite a few years. While some say that it helps to lower cholesterol levels, it actually has a few nasty side effects as well (note: Only animal studies have been done regarding the toxic effects that it has on living organisms). Despite no human studies being done, this product was placed on the GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) list. It is in fact a by-product of a highly toxic insecticide product.
The real name for Canola oil is LEAR, or Low Erucic Acid Rape, as it has been extracted from Rapeseed oil. This oil is in fact an industrial oil product which has no place whatsoever in our bodies. In light industry, it is also referred to as penetrating oil. Rapeseed oil is also the source for Mustard Gas, which was used as a chemical warfare agent, and was banned after Word War 1 for causing severe blistering of the lungs and skin.
Canola is in fact a Genetically Modified food which has been classified as a bio pesticide by the EPA. Like mercury and fluoride, Canola is also not eliminated from the body. It is found in almost all fast foods, convenience foods, chocolate, candies, bread, potato chips, baby foods and formulas, most peanut butters and cookies, frozen French fries, rye breads, chocolate syrups, mayonnaise, granola bars, some vegetarian convenience foods, lunch meats, margarines, movie house snacks, tortillas and most other bakery foods.
Studies done on rats and other lab animals showed that after consuming canola oil, there were fatty deposits that accumulated on their hearts, thyroids, adrenal glands and kidneys. When they stopped consuming this oil, the fatty deposits disappeared, but unfortunately scar tissue remained on the affected organs.
Because it is high in glycosides, canola oil has been shown to inhibit enzyme function. Its effects are known to be accumulative, resulting in side-effects taking years to show up. It is also able to inhibit the metabolism of foods. Being a trans-fatty acid, it is also possible that this man-made oil has a direct link to causing cancer (even from just breathing in the toxic fumes created when frying foods in it).
Rapeseed oil is an acetyl cholinesterase inhibitor. This compound is crucial when it comes to transmitting signals from the nerves to the muscles. This is possibly why there has been a dramatic increase in cases of multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy over the past few years. Other side effects which have been reported include respiratory illnesses, loss of vision, constipation, anemia, heart disease, irritability and low birth weight in infants. It is known to severely deplete Vitamin E levels in the body, as well as cause severe clotting of red blood cells, which can pose a serious health risk.
The best way to avoid consuming this toxic industrial by-product is to prepare meals yourself from scratch, and especially avoid fast foods at all costs.

CNN News article re. the dangers of diet soda
Good to see this finally making the mainstream news. Diet sodas containing aspartame can be very addictive, make you gain weight instead of lose it, and give increased risk to diabetes, stroke, and mineral loss in bones. Several--but not all--of the risks of aspartame are mentioned in this article. Health sites have been warning against these drinks for years. They should never be given to children. Aspartame is a dangerous substance to the human body. You can read many articles online, warning about the dangers of this substance. An excellent one is at: http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-information.html
EXCERPT from CNN article: Whether you feel dependent or not, drinking too much diet soda might be risky in the long run. In recent years, habitual diet-soda consumption has been linked to an increased risk of low bone mineral density in women, type 2 diabetes, and stroke. What's more, a growing body of research suggests that excessive diet soda intake may actually encourage weight gain.
Health.com: Can diet soda boost your stroke risk?
EXCERPT from sweetpoison.com: The dangers of aspartame poisoning have been a well guarded secret since the 1980s. The research and history of aspartame is conclusive as a cause of illness and toxic reactions in the human body. Aspartame is a dangerous chemical food additive, and its use during pregnancy and by children is one of the greatest modern tragedies of all.
Why haven't you heard about aspartame poisoning before? Partly because the diet industry is worth trillions of American dollars to corporations, and they want to protect their profits by keeping the truth behind aspartame's dangers hidden from the public. When NutraSweet® was introduced for the 'second' time in 1981, a diet craze revolutionized America's eating protocols and a well-oiled money machine was set into motion changing modern lifestyles.
After more than twenty years of aspartame use, the number of its victims is rapidly piling up, and people are figuring out for themselves that aspartame is at the root of their health problems. Patients are teaching their doctors about this nutritional peril, and they are healing themselves with little to no support from traditional medicine.

Babies exposed to full body X-rays raise alarms: NY Times

The U.S. has had its own Dr. Mengeles
The moral for all of us: Always question authority when it comes to the health and well being of your own body or the bodies of your loved ones. Do your own research on symptoms and take care of yourself as best you can, relying on your intuition and knowledge gleaned from your research. Be completely prepared when you visit your doctor, with a list of questions and suggestions about your own treatment. It is your body. Become an advocate for yourself and take responsibility for your own health. Never allow any procedure or treatment without gaining full knowledge of what is involved and what possible problems or side effects could arise from it. As much as humanly possible, always make your decisions from a completely informed position.
Consider natural alternatives to Big Pharma drugs. In many cases, homeopathy, acupuncture, herbs, vitamin supplements, osteopathy, chiropractic, etc. can be much safer and more helpful in bringing about relief from symptoms. Pharmaceutical drugs often cause side effects that are then addressed by allopathic physicians with yet more drug prescriptions, leading a patient into ever-deepening problems--and even more side effects. Pharmaceutical drugs most often mask symptoms, instead of getting to the root cause of them. Homeopathy goes to the root, and addresses the problem from there, rather than tackling the leaves and branches as does western medicine.
For even more information about how tentacles within the federal government (C.I.A.) have, in the past (and no doubt are still doing so), performed experiments on their own agents that led to the deaths of those agents and the deaths of many other innocent victims, go to Google and plug in the words MK-ULTRA. Be prepared to have your eyes wide-opened. The C.I.A. has no governors on their actions. Even the president does not know of their many cover agencies within the government, from which they carry on their dark manipulations of our country and other countries around the globe. To find out more on this (and perhaps be shocked beyond anything you can now imagine), read the book JFK and the UNSPEAKABLE: Why he died and why it matters by James W. Douglass.
HORRIFIC U.S. MEDICAL STUDIES COME TO LIGHT
By Mike Stobbe, AP News
http://www.aolnews.com/2011/02/27/horrific-us-medical-experiments-come-to-light/
EXCERPT: ATLANTA -- Shocking as it may seem, U.S. government doctors once thought it was fine to experiment on disabled people and prison inmates. Such experiments included giving hepatitis to mental patients in Connecticut, squirting a pandemic flu virus up the noses of prisoners in Maryland, and injecting cancer cells into chronically ill people at a New York hospital.
Much of this horrific history is 40 to 80 years old, but it is the backdrop for a meeting in Washington this week by a presidential bioethics commission. The meeting was triggered by the government's apology last fall for federal doctors infecting prisoners and mental patients in Guatemala with syphilis 65 years ago.

Please boycott paper products by Koch brothers companies
Read article at: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/02/27/anonymous-targets-the-brothers-koch-claiming-attempts-to-usurp-american-democracy/
...if one would like to withdraw their unknowing support for the brothers Koch, an array of products would need to be boycotted -- and not just by Americans, but people world-wide.
In the US, those products are listed as Vanity Fair, Quilted Northern, Angel Soft, Sparkle, Brawny, Mardi Gras and Dixie (and all other Georgia-Pacific paper products).
For Europe, they are Demak'Up, Kitten Soft, Lotus / Lotus Soft, Tenderly, Nouvelle Soft, Okay Kitchen Towels, Colhogar, Delica, Inversoft and Tutto.
EXCERPT: "Anonymous hears the voice of the downtrodden American people, whose rights and liberties are being systematically removed one by one, even when their own government refuses to listen or worse - is complicit in these attacks," they continued. "We are actively seeking vulnerabilities, but in the meantime we are calling for all supporters of true Democracy, and Freedom of The People, to boycott all Koch Industries' paper products. We welcome unions across the globe to join us in this boycott to show that you will not allow big business to dictate your freedom."

Worst Persons of the Day for February 25, 2011
Our first Silver winner: U.S. Representative Paul Broun, continuing to set the high standard for Congressional inhumanity at which the Michele Bachmanns and the Steve Kings can only grasp in vain. Dr. Broun’s office now confirms that at a town hall in Athens, Ga. the Congressman was asked “who is going to shoot Obama?”
The crowd in the Oglethorpe County Commission chamber roared with laughter. But fortunately Broun was enough of an American to say something like John McCain did when that bag lady tried to claim the then-Senator was a ‘terrist.’
Oh, no, sorry, he didn’t. Broun didn’t say ‘don’t even joke about such things.’ He simply pivoted into “The thing is, I know there’s a lot of frustration with this president. We’re going to have an election next year… (blah, blah blah, blah blah).”
This, per his press secretary Jessica Morris, was the Congressman recognizing that “obviously, the question was inappropriate. So Congressman Broun moved on.”
Would he moved on if the question had been “so who, Congressman, is going to shoot you?”
Here’s the deal: we need to stop accepting violent language in our political discourse. Period. I’m still waiting for anybody like Broun to forswear this kind of deadly, poisonous, talk. But he won’t, because he doesn’t have the guts to stand up to the sub-humans who elected him.
Did Gabby Giffords get a bullet through her brain last month, or a hundred years ago? Sometimes it feels like the latter.
—
The bronze: It wouldn’t be Worst Persons if we didn’t hear from Billo’s guilty conscience. Nearly two years after his incessant references to “Tiller The Killer” contributed to the frenzy that led to the assassination of Dr. George Tiller in Kansas, The Frank Burns of News is still trying to smear the man, and figuratively use his dead body as part of the Right’s new attack on Planned Parenthood:
“We’ve reported this story fairly here, ‘kay?” Bill O’Reilly lied as his Stepford-wife news actress Megyn Kelly played the role of the yes-woman. “The assassination of Tiller – disgraceful, never should happen in America But there are media organizations that are glorifying George Tiller. Making him to be a martyr. It is disgusting, disgusting.”
What do you want to inspire now, Billy? You want somebody to dig up Tiller’s body and kill him again?
–
But our winner: Mike Hogan, the would-be Republican nominee for mayor of Jacksonville, Florida. Sure, he admits he told a candidates’ forum that he was so opposed to abortion that the only thing he wouldn’t do was bomb a clinic and then added, laughing, “but it may cross my mind” – but it was only a joke!
“If I’ve got to measure everything I say,” he told the Jacksonville Times-Union, “I mean, I’m not going to be politically correct. That was a joke. This was an audience for this. This is a Catholic Church. I guarantee you they are 110 percent pro-life.”
So, Mike, you’re saying it’s ok to joke about blowing up buildings and killing people, so long as you’re inside a Catholic Church? How exactly would you feel about a Muslim joking about blowing up buildings and killing people – so long as he did so inside a Mosque? Would that be fine with you, or are you a complete and utter hypocrite?
The would-be Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, Mike Hogan, the Worst Person of the Day.
