Yesterday's GOP vote results tell a new direction

From the voting results yesterday, it looks like centrist Republicans (I was beginning to think they were extinct) have finally realized the serious dangers of allowing the inmates to be in control of the GOP asylum/party.  It may be that the management is getting a grip and taking over once again.  It's the only hope for the salvation of the Republican Party and I think they are realizing that at the gut level now.  But, really, who have they got as a viable Presidential candidate?  The Tea Party consciousness is still very alive deep in the ranks.  Would those voters actually vote for Chris Christie?  Hmmm...given the latest about him, would ANYone vote for Chris Christie?

This might be Rand Paul's year to go for the gold...but it's very doubtful he would win in the general election.  Same for Ted Cruz. Same for Marco Rubio. So who does that leave them with?  Oh yes, Jeb Bush.  Now, he's got a recognizable, electable name (at least, it used to be)---but also the added heavy burden of carrying the memory of his brother and Cheney on his back. And he's for immigration reform. And may be open to a woman's right to choose what to do with her own body.  Uh oh...big trouble brewing there. (See the following "From the News"*)

Hey, maybe they can get Clint Eastwood to run, with a folding chair as the vice-presidential candidate.  He's got a new dolly by his side who could be First Consort, since he recently dumped his wife of the last 17 years--and is denying her spousal support (after he insisted she give up her career to be his stay-at-home wife).  Oh well, he's just mimicking the actions of other GOP role models like Newt Gingrich who dumped his wife while she was in the hospital having cancer surgery -- and Rudy Giuliani who had afternoon delight with his assistant while his wife stayed home with the kids -- and Rep. Bob Dornan who regularly beat his wife but claimed he is a "family values" kind of guy.  And on and on and on.....  The Family Values Party, Hypocrisy Style.

*From the News:  The GOP has been characterized by an almost obsessive focus on women's reproductive rights, as "contraception" joined "abortion" in Republicans' list of dirty words. But, amid the chaos, there is still more than one party heavyweight that believes the party's position on women's medical decisions needs to catch up to the modern age.

The former governor of Florida has emerged as the GOP's voice of reason. During an appearance on NBC'S "Meet the Press", Bush acknowledged that some conservatives' rather extreme rhetoric on some issues relating to women and minorities is understandably repelling those two groups from the Republican Party.

"I'm concerned about it over the long haul for sure. Our demographics are changing and we have to change not necessarily our core beliefs, but the tone of our message and the intensity of it, for sure," Bush said.

The Walkman - outdated just like us old fogies

I still have my Walkman and still use it occasionally.  That period of technology came and went very quickly.  Kids today, all born after 2000, were given a Walkman to try to figure out what it was and what it does--this short video shows the results.  It made me feel like a dinosaur...(but a smart one, 'cause I know how to use a Walkman (~.~))   I think other old fogies like me will get a few laughs watching this video.

(Video: under 7 and a half minutes):
From Forbidden Knowledge site:

This is hilarious, watching young
kids trying to figure out what a
Walkman *is*, let alone how it
works; what they think of it and
how it competes against the
technology of today.

I remember very well when the
Japanese craze, the Sony Walkman,
hit the international market, in 1980.
I was then living in Sao Paulo, Brazil
and it was an absolutely revolutionary
moment. I remember seeing my
mother talking walks in the Brazilian
outback, listening to Gustav Mahler
concertos and watching her ecstatic
facial expressions, as she experienced
having her favorite music playing right
in her head, in any setting whatsoever.

What I did not know until researching
the subject, just now was that the design
and patents for a portable cassette tape
player were invented by the German-
Brazilian, Andreas Pavel in 1972, who filed
a patent for what he called "Stereobelt" in
Italy in 1977, followed by patent
applications in the US, Germany, the UK
and Japan by the end of 1978. (His patent
applications in the US and the UK were
rejected).

In 1979, Sony began selling the popular
Walkman in Japan, without giving credit
to its inventor. It took 22 years of legal
action on the part of Pavel to arrive at a
settlement with Sony, in 2001.

While secret, the cash settlement for
damages is estimated to have been in
excess of $10M and he is now also receiving
royalties on some Walkman sales, as well as
the official recognition from Sony that Pavel
was the original inventor of the personal
stereo.

Watch this amazing dance from Dancing with the Stars

http://time.com/105916/dancing-with-the-stars-finale-recap/

Meryl and Maks won the championship tonight -- very well deserved.  These two have an incredible chemistry. Meryl, who won a gold medal at the Olympics in figure skating, is a sweet little thing with a tiny body and tiny voice -- Maks, a big muscular Russian dance pro, has had a temper like a big bad bear in previous years on the show.  Meryl somehow magically transformed him into a lovable teddy bear.  It was quite a feat, remarkable to see as their dancing partnership progressed over the weeks.  And he transformed her from a little girl (she is 27 but looks about 16) into a femme fatale, full of fire and passion.  A totally entrancing season - the best ever!

Watch their dance on the video included in the above link -- their chemistry and dance technique are so mesmerizing, it's impossible to take your eyes off of them.  This dance brought tears to the eyes of one of the judges and some in the audience.  It's a feast for the eyes -- and the heart.

Pancreatic cancer on the rise

I wonder if anyone is connecting this with the environmental issues that alert/aware people are trying to call attention to?  The investigative journalists of yesteryear would have been all over this....but, alas, they are so few in number now as to almost no longer exist.  Chemtrails?  Fukushima?  Monsanto chemicals and seeds?  All of the above? And Much More??????

Lowest of the Low: Where? In the GOP, of course

http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/17/politics/mississippi-gop-primary-arrest/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

From the GOP DIRTY TRICKS LIST: Take a photo of other candidate's dementia-ridden wife in nursing home, then post it online for all to see.
How Low Can They Go?  Apparently, there is no limit!
Hard to believe anyone would want to claim themselves as a Tea Party member or even as a supporter of the now-completely-diseased Republican party, but you know they will just skate over this latest horror, as if it never happened.  These are typical Tea Party tactics, begun long ago in the Republican party under Lee Atwater (who repented on his deathbed) and continued to this day by Karl Rove (who will never repent). This latest dirty trick is a reminder of the Bush/Rove slam-lies against McCain
in the 2000 S.C. GOP primary for having a black adopted daughter, saying McCain fathered her with a black prostitute.  Here are a few more of those tidbits against McCain, dreamed up by Rove/Bush/Cheney who went on to give us the worst presidency of all time, under a greed-and-power-driven Dr. Evil and his Idiot puppet Duhmbya.  (We don't even have to imagine how bad they will get against Hillary, with Rove's recent implication that she is brain damaged).  Read the following and weep for what we will have to endure in the 2016 presidential race:

What Bush did to McCain in the 2000 S. C. primary

FACT SHEET:

Bush Waged Nasty Smear Campaign Against McCain in 2000
Bush Supporters Called McCain “The Fag Candidate.” In South Carolina, Bush supporters circulated church fliers that labeled McCain “the fag candidate.” Columnist Frank Rich noted that the fliers were distributed “even as Bush subtly reinforced that message by indicating he wouldn’t hire openly gay people for his administration.”

McCain Slurs Included Illegitimate Children, Homosexuality And A Drug-Addict Wife.
Among the rumors circulated against McCain in 2000 in South Carolina was that his adopted Bangladeshi daughter was actually black, that McCain was both gay and cheated on his wife, and that his wife Cindy was a drug addict.”

Bush Campaign Used Code Words to Question McCain’s Temper.
“A smear campaign of the ugliest sort is now coursing through the contest for the presidency in 2000. Using the code word "temper," a group of Senate Republicans, and at least some outriders of the George W. Bush campaign, are spreading the word that John McCain is unstable. The subtext, also suggested in this whispering campaign, is that he returned from 5 1/2 years as a POW in North Vietnam with a loose screw. And it is bruited about that he shouldn't be entrusted with nuclear weapons.”

Bush Supporters Questioned McCain’s Sanity.
“Some of George W. Bush's supporters have questioned Republican presidential candidate John McCain's fitness for the White House, suggesting that his five years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam drove him insane at the time.”

Bush Supporters Spread Racist Rumors About McCain’s Daughter.
Bush supporters in South Carolina made race-baiting phone calls saying that McCain had a “black child.” The McCains’ daughter, Bridget, was adopted from Mother Teresa’s orphanage in Bangladesh. In August 2000, columnist Maureen Dowd wrote that the McCains “are still seething about Bush supporters in South Carolina spreading word of their dark-skinned adopted daughter.”

Rove Suggests Former POW McCain Committed Treason and Fathered Child With Black Prostitute.
In 2000, McCain operatives in SC accused Rove of spreading rumors against McCain, such as “suggestions that McCain had committed treason while a prisoner of war, and had fathered a child by a black prostitute,” according to the New Yorker.

After Rove Denied Role In McCain Whisper Campaign, Reporters Concluded He Was Behind It.
A December 1999 Dallas Morning News linked Rove to a series of campaign dirty tricks, including his College Republican efforts, allegedly starting a whisper campaign about Ann Richard being too gay-friendly, spreading stories about Jim Hightower’s involvement in a kickback scheme and leaking the educational history of Lena Guerrero. The article also outlined current dirty tricks and whisper campaigns against McCain in South Carolina, including that “McCain may be unstable as a result of being tortured while a prisoner of war in North Vietnam.” (DMN, 12/2/99) After the article was published, Rove blasted Slater in the Manchester, NH airport, “nose to nose” according to one witness, with Rove claiming Slater had “harmed his reputation,” Slater later noted. But according to one witness, “What was interesting then is that everyone on the campaign charter concluded that Rove was responsible for rumors about McCain.”

Rove Was In Close Touch With McConnell, McCain-Feingold’s Chief Opponent.
Senior White House adviser Karl Rove was in close contact with Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) during McConnell’s effort to fight the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Bill in the U.S. Senate. According to Newsweek, though Rove and Bush have publicly kept their distance from McConnell on the issue, “sources tell Newsweek that Rove is, in fact, in close touch with McConnell as GOP experts study the bill for hidden land mines.”

Bush Campaign Accused of Using Push Polls Against McCain.
College of Charleston student Suzette Latsko said she received a telephone call from a woman who identified herself as an employee of Voter/Consumer Research, and that the caller misrepresented McCain’s positions and asked if Latsko knew McCain had been reprimanded for interfering with federal regulators in the savings and loan scandal. Voter/Consumer Research is listed as a polling contractor on Bush’s Federal Election Commission filings; the Bush campaign has paid Voter/Consumer Research $93,000 through December 31, 1999. Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer denied the call was a push poll, but said it was important that the Republican Party remember McCain’s role in the S&L crisis.

Bush Campaign Acknowledged Making Phone Calls.
Tucker Eskew, Bush’s South Carolina spokesman, acknowledged the Bush campaign made such calls, but claimed they were not “push polls.” Eskew added, “Show me a baseless comment in those questions.”

Bush Used Fringe Veterans Group to Attack McCain as “Manchurian Candidate.”
“In the case of Ted Sampley, the same guy who did Bush's dirty work in going after Sen. John McCain in the 2000 Republican primaries is doing the job against Kerry this year. Sampley dared compare McCain, who spent five years as a Vietnam POW, with ‘the Manchurian Candidate.’”

Sampley Called McCain a “Coward” and a Traitor.
“Sampley… accused McCain of being a weak-minded coward who had escaped death by collaborating with the enemy. Sampley claimed that McCain had first been compromised by the Vietnamese, then recruited by the Soviets.”

Elizabeth Warren: spiritual leader of the Democrat party

I completely agree with this columnist. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are my choices for our next President and Vice President. They are both "outsiders" -- we've had far too many "insiders" running things for years in our country.  When he was a candidate, we thought Obama was an outsider -- but once he got to the White House, it became clear he was an insider, through and through.  So far, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have remained outsiders -- and that gives me hope they could help turn things around from the disastrous way this world is heading.

Excerpt from article:

In "A Fighting Chance," Elizabeth Warren recounts a spring 2009 conversation with Larry Summers, then President Obama's most senior economic adviser:

[Summers said] I had a choice. I could be an insider or I could be an outsider. Outsiders can say whatever they want. But people on the inside don't listen to them. Insiders, however, get lots of access and a chance to push their ideas... But insiders also understand one unbreakable rule: They don't criticize other insiders.

Elizabeth Warren decided to be an outsider. Barack Obama is an insider. (So is Hillary Clinton.)

ELIZABETH WARREN: SAVING THE DEMOCRATS
By Bob Burnett

Reading Senator Elizabeth Warren's new book, A Fighting Chance, I thought about the parallels between her career and that of Barack Obama. Both are brilliant lawyers with inspiring personal stories. Both entered national politics running for the senate and gave well-received speeches at the Democratic National convention. But Obama represents a continuation of Clinton-era "third way" policies. Warren offers a strident new populism.

To be fair, Obama first ran for President on a promise to end the Iraq war. He didn't paint himself as a populist and many Democrats recognized that he was not a liberal. And when he started his initial presidential campaign, few recognized that his biggest challenge would be the Great Recession. In 2008, at a San Francisco fundraiser, I asked candidate Obama how we could distinguish his economic policies from those of Hillary Clinton. He quipped, "We talk to the same people."

Obama and Elizabeth Warren have both lived through hard times, but Warren made the plight of the middle class the focus of her career. In 1981, Warren began teaching bankruptcy law at the University of Texas School of Law. She studied why millions of Americans annually file for bankruptcy and wrote a landmark study, "As We Forgive Our Debtors: Bankruptcy and Consumer Credit in America," with Teresa Sullivan and Jay Westbrook.

Elizabeth Warren had an epiphany. She realized the US is turning into a plutocracy where the wealthy and powerful benefit at the expense of working Americans:

Big corporations hire armies of lobbyists to get billion-dollar loopholes into the tax system and persuade their friends in Congress to support laws that keep the playing field tilted in the their favor. Meanwhile, hardworking families are told that they'll just have to live with smaller dreams for their children.

Before he went to law school, Barack Obama worked as a community organizer. As a professional he worked as a civil rights attorney and taught constitutional law. In contrast, Elizabeth Warren was a Harvard Law School professor teaching bankruptcy law and consumer credit - twice honored as teacher of the year. Both Obama and Warren are Democrats, but Warren understands the forces that have destroyed America's middle class far better than does Obama. As a result, she has a better grasp of populist principles.

University of California Economics Professor Robert Reich recently identified six principles of the new populism:

1. Cut the biggest Wall Street banks down to a size where they're no longer too big to fail. Elizabeth Warrens' book makes it clear that she's no fan of big banks. She's particularly critical of the 2008 bank bailout (TARP): "The major banks didn't need to be so big and interconnected... And the government made a huge mistake in how they handled the bailout."

2. Resurrect the Glass-Steagall Act, the law separating investment from commercial banking thereby preventing companies from gambling with their depositors' money. Senator Warren has introduced legislation to bring back critical elements of Glass-Steagall.

3. End corporate welfare including subsidies to big oil, agribusiness, pharmaceuticals, and Wall Street. Warren seeks changes that force corporations to play by the same rules as the working class.

4. Stop the National Security Agency from spying on Americans. Senator Warren said, "Congress must go further to protect the right to privacy, to end the NSA's dragnet surveillance of ordinary Americans, to make the intelligence community more transparent and accountable."

5. Scale back American interventions overseas. Elizabeth Warren wants to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan. In a recent speech Warren observed, "The failure to make civilian casualties a full and robust part of our national conversation over the use of force is dangerous - dangerous because of the impression that it gives the world about our country and dangerous because of how it affects the decisions that we make as a country."

6. Oppose trade agreements crafted by big corporations. Senator Warren has led the fight against the Trans Pacific Partnership, particularly the Administrations refusal to reveal the text of the agreement.

It's clear that Elizabeth Warren is much more of a populist than is Barack Obama (or Hillary Clinton). That's because she's retained her independence.

In "A Fighting Chance," Elizabeth Warren recounts a spring 2009 conversation with Larry Summers then President Obama's most senior economic adviser:

[Summers said] I had a choice. I could be an insider or I could be an outsider. Outsiders can say whatever they want. But people on the inside don't listen to them. Insiders, however, get lots of access and a chance to push their ideas... But insiders also understand one unbreakable rule: They don't criticize other insiders.

Elizabeth Warren decided to be an outsider. Barack Obama is an insider. (So is Hillary Clinton.)

Because Elizabeth Warren continues to be an outsider, continues to represent the best interests of the middle class, she's a populist. Warren may not run for President in 2016 - she's said that she does not intend to do so - but she should become the spiritual leader of the Democratic Party.

Benghazi quote from Sen. Alan Grayson

So true...

"Republicans are exploiting the Benghazi attack to distract from the fact that they have no policy initiatives of their own.

“They still think that there’s some political gain to be gotten here because they don’t want to talk about unemployment, they have no answers.  They don’t want to talk about health care, they have no answers. They don’t want to talk about education, or housing, or benefits, or pensions, or anything that is real in the lives of the American people. They have no answers. So instead, what they do is they try to embarrass the administration over and over again. Actually what they do is embarrass themselves.”

Great column today--selling one's soul for a mess of pottage

Condi’s Lesson

WASHINGTON — THERE has been much mockery of political correctness run amok on college campuses this spring, with knots of know-it-all students and teachers knifing their commencement speakers.

The Times’s Timothy Egan dubbed the protesters “commencement bigots,” and The Wall Street Journal’s Daniel Henninger christened the trend the “Bonfire of the Humanities” — a “ritualistic burning of college-commencement heretics.”

The disinvitation list has been burgeoning. Brandeis canceled human rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali, saying she’d made remarks critical of Islam. After protests about imperialism, Condoleezza Rice pulled out of her speech at Rutgers and Christine Lagarde, chief of the International Monetary Fund, said au revoir to Smith College.

This past week, liberal Haverford College shooed away Robert J. Birgeneau, the former chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley, “the big bang of political correctness,” as Henninger dryly noted, because Berkeley police had used “force” against Occupy protesters.

For a militaristic imperialist, Rice caved awfully easily. She should have invaded Rutgers, occupied the podium and said her piece about her failures on peace. And the students shouldn’t have jumped the gun. After all, there was always a chance, a small one, admittedly, but a chance, that Condi Rice would have looked into her soul and told the story of what happens when you succumb to the temptation to sell it.

And that, dear graduates, family and friends, faculty and honored guests, would have been the most amazing and instructive commencement speech of all time.

Rice always seemed to me a particularly sad part of the tragedies of Iraq and Afghanistan, and the lovely linchpin of the moral corrosion of W.’s presidency.

“What a falling off was there,” as the ghost of Hamlet’s father said of his compromised queen.

Condi had all the qualities required to dazzle. Smart, attractive, hard-working, personable, chic. She grew up in Birmingham, Ala., in the 1960s, when segregationists bombed so much that the city became known as “Bombingham.”

Yet she sailed to success at a young age. She could stand toe-to-heel on substance with world leaders. She could speak Russian competently and talk sports expertly and play the piano and ice skate beautifully. She could authoritatively survey the troops in Wiesbaden in black leather knee-high stiletto boots and fashionably dominate a Washington banquet in a long, scarlet Oscar de la Renta gown.

Women everywhere, including my mom, were blown away by her, believing that she could be the first woman and the first black person to be president.

So how could someone named by her mother after the Italian musical notation con dolcezza, meaning “with sweetness,” end up having such a sour effect on American history? Rice was a star, but unfortunately, she cast herself in yet another production of “Faust” on the Potomac, uttering one of the most over-the-top lines of war spin ever: “We don’t want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.”

She excelled at failing better. As national security adviser for W., she ignored the intelligence report warning that Osama bin Laden was determined to strike inside the U.S. And she only learned about Hamas’s shocking win in the Palestinian elections in 2006 when she was on her elliptical trainer watching the TV news crawl. After verifying it with State, she returned to exercising.

As Elisabeth Bumiller wrote in her trenchant biography of Rice, “Condoleezza Rice: An American Life”: “It was obvious from Rice’s many metamorphoses that her real ideology was not idealism or realism or defending the citadels of freedom, although she displayed elements of all of them. Her real ideology was succeeding.”

And so, in order to succeed, she rejected her old mentors, Brent Scowcroft and Colin Powell, and went along with the preposterous pre-emption plan of the old hawks who had far less respect for her: Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld.

She knew that W. — eager to show he was not a wimp, the word Newsweek had once hung around his father’s neck — was leaning toward kicking some Arabs around. So she ignored the red flags raised publicly by Scowcroft and privately by Powell and made her Faustian deal to sell a fake war.

We’ll never know if she could have stopped W. from ruining his presidency and destroying so many lives when there was no national security stake.

We only know that when you sell your soul, it’s not like a pawnshop. Condi thought she could reclaim it after she was secretary of state and bring W. back to the light of diplomacy and common sense. But, as Russell Baker once noted, she was trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube, spinning her wheels in the second term trying to undo the disasters of the first.

What a wonderful lesson she could have taught those graduates about the perils of succeeding at any cost, about how moral shortcuts never lead to the right place.

She should have said she was sorry about everything — except becoming one of the first two women permitted to join Augusta National.

TV Weathermen now telling us about chemtrails and showing them on maps

http://www.forbiddenknowledgetv.com/videos/chemtrails/meteorologists-begin-to-admit-to-climate-engineering.html

Meteorologists are beginning to move closer to telling us the truth about chemtrails (geo-engineering) in the skies above us.  Watch this 4-minute video to see how weather reporters are now showing the chemtrails on their graphics and are giving us an explanation for them.  It must be that too many people around the world are finally becoming aware of the spraying of our skies, so they have to come up with an explanation.  I've spent years telling my family about chemtrails and being snickered at ("Oh, Mom, they're just jet contrails"), but I think most of my family members realize now that chemtrails are not regular jet trails...we see them almost daily being laid down in our skies by high-flying planes.

Now, with TV weathermen pointing out the aluminum-laden chemtrails on their maps and giving us a government-concocted cover story for them, we are at least in the "admittance" stage, even though full truth is being withheld from us.

I wonder how much physical damage has been done to us over the many years we have been subjected to geo-engineering by our government, being forced to breathe in particulates of aluminum/barium/strontium being sprayed on us without our knowledge or approval.  These chemtrails have been appearing in the skies over all western countries for decades..at least since 1998 when some of us first began to notice and question them.

UFO site you might find of interest

http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/vida_alien/blueplanetproject/blueplanetproject01.htm

The Science channel had a program on the government's Blue Planet Project tonight, which I recorded.  The information in that program jibed with other info. I had learned through many years of UFO conference attendance and reading books on UFOs.  There was also new information that I believe has the ring of truth.  The site has many worthwhile links to explore...for those who have the time and the curiosity.  Many things are kept from us by the government -- and information on this subject is one of them.  You may be very surprised to learn just how much has been concealed from "we, the people."

UFO info of interest

The Science channel tonight had a program about the Blue Planet Project, which I recorded on DVR.  In a search on the Internet, I came up with the following interesting/informative site about that project:  http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/vida_alien/blueplanetproject/blueplanetproject01.htm

There is a ring of truth to this site and its info, some of which I have been familiar with from other sources over the many years I have attended UFO conferences, read in books, etc.  There are many links to pursue on this site--worthy of investigation for those who have the time and curiosity.

Science not really welcome on FOX

For scientific truths, one needs to be watching news on other than the Fox Bubble-news channel.

The “Apolitical” Science Segments On Fox News Are All Too Political

By Amanda Marcotte

  • 47

Have you guys been following this little tiff between the editor of Scientific American and Fox News? Few stories really encapsulate the growing politicization of science and how the right is, as with racism and sexism, involved in a project of denying that they’re anti-science while also promoting an anti-science point of view. To summarize, the editor in question, named Michael Moyer, was asked to come on to Fox News to talk about the future of technology. Since so much of that future is going to be shaped, inevitably, by climate change, he wanted to talk about that. But they wouldn’t let him. Moyer said he’s not going to come onto Fox anymore, and that the whole experience made him uncomfortable.

Can’t blame him. Moyer is a science educator, and so of course his initial instinct when being asked to do media was to say yes. As it should be. I have no fault with him. He almost surely thought that while Fox is obviously a partisan network that frequently attacks scientific findings they don’t like for purely ideological reasons, it doesn’t mean every segment they do is about that. When they told him that he couldn’t mention climate change, he probably thought that it was mostly because it’s a politically touchy subject for them. Now he doesn’t want to go on anymore, because he rightfully is concerned about that this level of censorship is tantamount to dishonesty.

But the viciousness of the response from the Fox News team suggests that something more sinister is going on.

TPM has some choice quotes of the victim posturing and nastiness aimed at Moyer because he simply stated the obvious, which is that their policy—which they admit to having—of censoring mentions of climate change in these kinds of segments is anti-science

“Clearly he has a problem with Fox,” Doocy said. “So why did he come on? Clearly, it was just to promote himself, and maybe his magazine as well. But, you know, hashtag classy. We put him on, we have a nice conversation and then he stabs us in the back.”

“The bone that he had to pick with Fox, he said, was that he wanted to come on here and talk all about climate change,” Kooiman added. “Well, our producers decide what we air.”

“We talk about climate change all the time,” Doocy interjected.

Yes, in politicized segments where you are promoting the myth that climate change is “controversial” or that there’s any real scientific debate about its reality. It’s clearly they censored him because this was supposed to be an “apolitical” segment. Again, they openly admit in this segment that they censored Moyer’s attempts to mention climate change in an apolitical ain’t-science-neat kind of segment. This is not in dispute.

All of which says to me their “apolitical” science segments are not apolitical at all. On the contrary. The segment was there to support their attacks on science elsewhere, by creating the false impression that they aren’t anti-science. “We can’t be anti-science,” the segment was saying. “See? We have scientists on to talk about science stuff. So our attacks on climate change can’t be about a refusal to accept science. It must be because we have Legitimate Questions and Real Doubts.” Moyer’s role was to shore up their credibility as not-anti-science, in the same way that they put female faces on the network to shore up their claim that they’re  not anti-woman. No wonder he felt icky. They were exploiting him.

Now that he’s come out in public to blow the whistle, they are freaking out on him. Their attempts to put forward the image of general pro-science (but with Questions about climate change!) have been undermined dramatically. The true face of Fox News, one that is intrinsically anti-science and only accepts science on ideological and not evidentiary grounds, has been revealed. No wonder they’re so mad.

None of which is to say that we should generally be suspicious of cable news shows doing non-political segments on things like “exciting new developments in technology” or whatnot. Most of those are exactly what they seem. But there’s almost always an ulterior motive going on at Fox News, even with the seemingly most innocuous and apolitical segments.
