Kilroy Was Here!Us older folks remember him well and had even been party to inscribing him on our school desks, books, just anywhere at all. (~.~)KILROY WAS HERE !He is engraved in stone in the National War Memorial in Washington, DC-Back in a small alcove where very few people have seen it.For the WWII generation, this will bring back memories. For you younger folks, it's a bit of trivia that is a part of our American history.Anyone born in 1913 to about 1950, is familiar with Kilroy. No one knew why he was so well known- but everybody seemed to get into it.So who was Kilroy? In 1946 the American Transit Association, through its radio program,"Speak to America ," sponsored a nationwide contest to find the real Kilroy,Offering a prize of a real trolley car to the person who could prove himself to be the genuine article.Almost 40 men stepped forward to make that claim,But only James Kilroy from Halifax , Massachusetts , had evidence of his identity.
'Kilroy' was a 46-year old shipyard worker during the war who worked asa checker at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy . His job was to go aroundand check on the number of rivets completed. Riveters were on piecework andgot paid by the rivet. He would count a block of rivets and put a check markin semi-waxed lumber chalk, so the rivets wouldn't be counted twice. When Kilroy went off duty, the riveters would erase the mark.Later on, an off-shift inspector would come through and count the rivets a second time,Resulting in double pay for the riveters.
One day Kilroy's boss called him into his office. The foreman was upset about all the wages being paid to riveters, and asked him to investigate. It was then he realized what had been going on.The tight spaces he had to crawl in to check the rivets didn't lend themselvesto lugging around a paint can and brush, so Kilroy decided to stick with the waxy chalk. He continued to put his check mark on each job he inspected, but added 'KILROY WAS HERE'in king-sized letters next to the check, and eventually added the sketch of the chap withThe long nose peering over the fence and that became part of the Kilroy message.
Once he did that, the riveters stopped trying to wipe away his marks.Ordinarily the rivets and chalk marks would have been covered up with paint. With the war on, however, ships were leaving the Quincy Yard so fast that therewasn't time to paint them. As a result, Kilroy's inspection "trademark" was seenby thousands of servicemen who boarded the troopships the yard produced.
His message apparently rang a bell with the servicemen,Because they picked it up and spread it all over Europe and the South Pacific. Before war's end, "Kilroy" had been here, there, and everywhere on the long haulsto Berlin and Tokyo . To the troops outbound in those ships, however, he wasa complete mystery; all they knew for sure was that someone named Kilroy had"been there first." As a joke, U.S. Servicemen began placing the graffiti whereverthey landed, claiming it was already there when they arrived.Kilroy became the U.S. Super-GI who had always "already been" wherever GIs went.It became a challenge to place the logo in the most unlikely places imaginable(it is said to be atop Mt. Everest , the Statue of Liberty , the underside ofThe Arc de Triomphe, and even scrawled in the dust on the moon.
As the war went on, the legend grew. Underwater demolition teams routinelysneaked ashore on Japanese-held islands in the Pacific to map the terrain forComing invasions by U.S. Troops (and thus, presumably, were the first GI's there). On one occasion, however, they reported seeing enemy troops painting over the Kilroy logo!
In 1945, an outhouse was built for the exclusive use of Roosevelt, Stalin,And Churchill at the Potsdam conference. Its' first occupant was Stalin, who emerged and asked his aide (in Russian),"Who is Kilroy?"
To help prove his authenticity in 1946, James Kilroy brought along officialsfrom the shipyard and some of the riveters. He won the trolley car, which hegave to his nine children as a Christmas gift and set it up as a playhouse inthe Kilroy yard in Halifax , Massachusetts .

Am glad someone is saying it! SHUT THE HELL UP, DICK CHENEY!
Every time I see one of these Iraq-war apologists on TV these days defending their lies that caused our nation to attack Iraq and cause the big blowup in the Middle East, I want to strangle them. In Washington, there are 3 kinds of politicians: liars, damned liars, and loathsome, detestable liars. These reptilian-like characters are the 3rd kind. Their greed-and-lust-driven actions set off the conflagration we are now witnessing in the completely out-of-control Middle East situation. The following article says it well. If only we could shut him up...forever. He should be in prison for life, along with Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, and Bush, his idiot puppet.
Why don’t you shut the hell up, Dick Cheney
Wednesday, June 18, 2014 13:41 EDT
It should probably come as no surprise that, on the heels of virtually every major media institution handing over precious airtime to the criminally stupid and incompetent folks who shoved the Iraq war down America’s throat after they were found to have been asleep at the wheel prior to 9/11, that someone would roll away the stone keeping Dick Cheney in his crypt so he could plague the country with his presence once again.
We had already heard from comb-sucking Paul Wolfowitz who suddenly became bashful about being referred to as the ‘architect’ of a misguided excursion that destroyed a country. There was Paul Bremer who decided back in the day to sack the entire Iraqi army, making them free agents with guns and training in a world without jobs. Or electricity. Or running water.
That certainly worked out well.
Politico went so far as to track down and ask for the sage words of Doug Feith; a man General Tommy Franks once called “the dumbest fucking guy on the planet,” and is not to be confused with Jim Hoft who is the “stupidest man on the Internet.”
Of course, no debate about doing something profoundly stupid and ill-conceived and totally at odds with reality in the Middle East would be complete without hearing from the one guy who has been wrong about everything every time for forever: Bill Kristol.
Which brings us back to Dick Cheney, Vice President who was the United States from 2001 to 2009, and perennial Halliburton Employee of the Year from 2002 on, probably to infinity.
The man who who once had this conversation on TV in 2003:
VICE PRES. CHENEY: I think things have gotten so bad inside Iraq from the standpoint of the Iraqi people, my belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators.
MR. RUSSERT: If your analysis is not correct and we’re not treated as liberators but as conquerors and the Iraqis begin to resist particularly in Baghdad, do you think the American people are prepared for a long, costly and bloody battle with significant American casualties?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: Well, I don’t think it’s unlikely to unfold that way, Tim, because I really do believe we will be greeted as liberators. I’ve talked with a lot of Iraqis in the last several months myself, had them to the White House. The president and I have met with various groups and individuals, people who’ve devoted their lives from the outside to try and change things inside of Iraq.
The read we get on the people of Iraq is there’s no question but what they want to get rid of Saddam Hussein and they will welcome as liberators the United States when we come to do that.
Except, not.
With the help of his daughter — failed candidate for office and both Daddy’s Little Deferment and the amanuensis known as Princess Snarlyface — Liz Cheney, Dick penned a screed for the Wall Street Journal about the current conditions in Iraq, and in it he wants everyone to know that …
Nope. I’m not going to tell you, because it doesn’t matter.
Outside of a tearful televised apology followed by ritual seppuku (pay per-view!), no one ever needs to hear a thing that Dick Cheney has to say again.
Fuck that guy.
Following his term as Secretary of Defense — that same period when he thought invading Iraq was a bad idea — Dick Cheney took over as CEO of government contractor Halliburton; a company that made him a very wealthy man despite the fact that he wasn’t very good at it. To repay them, and possibly make amends for his boneheaded stewardship, Cheny helped orchestrate the biggest boondoggle since the Vietnam War. Halliburton reaped billions while an estimated half million Iraqis perished and close to 4,500 Americans died.
Between the dead and the wounded, that’s enough blood to float a battleship.

Lost IRS e-mails vs Lost Bush White House e-mails
EXCERPT: On Friday the IRS reported to the House Ways and Means Committee that some email from the account of Lois Lerner, director of the Exempt Organizations division, were missing due to a computer crash that occurred in 2011. That morsel of news set the conservative media to salivating with hopes of a new controversy to wrap around the neck of the Obama administration. Never mind that after a year of congressional hearings, independent investigations, and media scrutiny, there has not been an iota of evidence tying any of the IRS activities to the White House, right-wing pundits and politicians scurried to spread innuendo and place blame.
Leading the pack, as usual, was Fox News. They pounced on the missing email story with a barely disguised glee, despite the fact that they had little information to report. However, they did succeed at what they do best: spewing outrage over alleged improprieties by President Obama that they cavalierly dismissed during the Bush years.
(Dana Perino, along with other conservative Fox pundits, weighed in with undisguised outrage), bemoaning the administration’s “ignorance” and “incompetence.” And without any proof whatsoever, they implied that the administration was lying and covering up.
(Now, what is humorous about all this): Perino was Bush’s press secretary when it was revealed that two years of White House emails were lost. This, of course, cannot be waived off as an isolated problem that occurred at another agency. This was the White House itself that lost emails that were presently being requested by investigators. And it was Perino who came to the defense.Monday, June 16, 2014

Laughter and Tears guaranteed: 80-year-old singer knocks it out of the park
Hey, guys, there is hope for the rest of us! This gal waited for 80 years to start her career as a singer (~.~) Love that song! "No Regrets"
Cheney/Bush legacy: Iraq, a shattered country
IRAQ IN CHAOS AS MILITANTS TAKE OVER SECOND LARGEST CITY
This hideous outcome was predicted and warned against by the wise, as Cheney/Bush lied to take us into the needless war in Iraq. Remember the wonderfully assuring pictures painted by Cheney and Rumsfeld? Iraqis would greet us as liberators...yeah, sure. We were bringing "freedom" to Iraq...yeah, sure. The war would be over in just a few days or weeks...yeah, sure. The oil in Iraq would pay for the cost of the war...yeah, sure. Only a few of our congressional representatives could see ahead to the true cost of a needless war started on lies--and voted against it. To his everlasting credit, among that small group was Barack Obama. Let us not forget that Hillary Clinton was among the drum-beaters for the war.
Cheney, Bush and Rumsfeld are terrorists of the worst kind in this world. In order to satisfy their greed and lust for power, they set in motion the destruction of an entire nation and sent our troops into a devastating war on lies. They doomed the population of Iraq to years of terror and war -- and, in the bargain, they condemned thousands of U.S. young men and women to death and/or horrible disability.
These evil men should be in irons right now, awaiting punishment for their crimes against humanity. Yet they continue blissfully on with their golden lives, filled with the benefits of the wealthy elite--and are STILL defending their horrendous decisions and actions, even while witnessing the death and destruction they have rained down on the world!!!
Whether or not they believe in karma, it does exist. And it will get them in the end.

Oh, Hillary! PUH_LEEZE!!!!!
Hillary says she and Bill were "dead broke" upon leaving the White House. Well, (if that's true, and I don't believe it for a New York minute) with their "in" with the Bushes (Bill is like another "son" to Poppy Bush) and all other elite on the planet, they are certainly not hurting for $$$ anymore. I don't like the Clintons, who are sellouts, and will not vote for Hillary. Am hoping Elizabeth Warren will challenge her for the nomination. But am not holding my breath waiting for that to happen.
If Hillary is the Dem. candidate in 2016, I may not vote in the Presidential part of that selection at all. No matter who the Republicans put up, it will be like voting between Tweedledum and Tweedledee, as far as the American middle class (what's left of us) is concerned. I am SO tired of hearing slick politicians fool the people with promises they will toss in the garbage as soon as they are selected. I don't even believe we have true elections anymore -- only Selections, engineered and automated from behind the scenes by the true rulers--the obscenely rich 1 %, to whom the candidates of both parties have sold their souls. Since the terrible Reagan years of corporate deregulation and tax breaks for the rich, this is how it has been. Because the elite bet on both horses, they always win, no matter who is selected. Just my own opinion, of course...but it is based on MANY years of sad experience and dashed hopes.

The McCain/right wing "decoder ring"
Maddow jabs McCain hypocrisy on Bergdahl: The ‘Rosetta Stone’ of what’s wrong in D.C
On Wednesday night, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow announced that she has discovered the Rosetta Stone, the “secret decoder ring” by which all of U.S. politics in the Obama administration can be interpreted. She began by pointing to a Charlie Rose Show appearance by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) from some weeks ago in which the senator gave his prescription for how President Barack Obama should handle the Russian incursion into Ukraine.
“I think first I would try the Magnitsky, which as you know, targets individuals and their bank accounts and their ability to travel,” said McCain. “I would try that first. Then, obviously, I would look at other areas, throw them out of the G8, of course, it should be the G7.”
Then, when President Obama did exactly those things, McCain went on Imus in the Morning to bash him, joking that Putin must be “reduced to tears” not to be included in the G8 anymore.
“See?” Maddow said. “This is the Rosetta Stone, this is the magic decoder ring that tells you how Washington works right now. Say that President Obama should do something, then pray that he doesn’t actually do it, because if he does actually do it, you’re going to have to come out against the thing that you have been recommending all along.”
“It’s amazing,” she said. “John McCain, I’d have to make you up if you didn’t exist.”
Case in point: Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the prisoner of the Afghanistan war whose return Obama traded five Guantanamo prisoners for.
Weeks ago, in an interview with Anderson Cooper, McCain said, “I would be inclined to support such a thing,” with regards to swapping the five Taliban combatants held at Guantanamo for Bergdahl, particularly in light of the “rapid deterioration” of Bergdahl’s health seen in videos released to the Pentagon by the Taliban.
That, said Maddow, was Step One: McCain suggests Obama do something. Then comes Step Two, in which the president actually does it.
“Step Three?” Maddow said. “Well, now John McCain has to pretend to be against his own idea.”
Arizona’s senior senator obliged by saying on Wednesday, “This decision to bring Sgt. Bergdahl home — and we applaud that he is home — is ill-founded. It is a mistake and it is putting the lives of American servicemen and women at risk and that to me is unacceptable to the American people.”
Sighing heavily, Maddow said, “Sen. McCain did not think that very same exchange of prisoners would be ‘unacceptable to the American people’ when he himself suggested it in February. But once Pres. Obama did it and got Bowe Bergdahl home that way, well that’s when the senator had to complete Step Three of his magic decoder ring process and come out against his own idea as a terrible, outrageous and dangerous idea because Pres. Obama actually did it.”

Good Robert Heinlein quotes
“When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, ‘This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,’ the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives.”
“Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything – you can’t conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him.”
~ Robert A. Heinlein, “If This Goes On” (1940)

NSA Collecting Gazillions of Photos from Websites
NSA COLLECTING GAZILLIONS OF PHOTOS FROM WEBSITES
By John Amato
Silly gooses, you thought the NSA only wanted to capture your personal communications.
The National Security Agency is harvesting huge numbers of images of people from communications that it intercepts through its global surveillance operations for use in sophisticated facial recognition programs, according to top-secret documents.
The spy agency’s reliance on facial recognition technology has grown significantly over the last four years as the agency has turned to new software to exploit the flood of images included in emails, text messages, social media, videoconferences and other communications, the N.S.A. documents reveal. Agency officials believe that technological advances could revolutionize the way that the N.S.A. finds intelligence targets around the world, the documents show. The agency’s ambitions for this highly sensitive ability and the scale of its effort have not previously been disclosed.
The agency intercepts “millions of images per day” — including about 55,000 “facial recognition quality images” — which translate into “tremendous untapped potential,” according to 2011 documents obtained from the former agency contractor Edward J. Snowden. While once focused on written and oral communications, the N.S.A. now considers facial images, fingerprints and other identifiers just as important to its mission of tracking suspected terrorists and other intelligence targets, the documents show.
As with calls and messages, the NSA can't officially run queries on photos of Americans without getting a court's approval first. A spokeswoman notes that large-scale metadata collection doesn't include these faces, and those the agency does find can help catch targets who "disguise themselves."
However, there aren't any laws explicitly protecting face detection data; it's not clear just what spies are allowed to do with the headshots they collect. While this content is more likely to be public than a call or message, and thus less sensitive by itself, civil liberty advocates are worried that the NSA may be diminishing privacy by learning so much about someone from a simple picture.
